Bad capacitor Jeremy L. • Calera , OK • April 28, 2014
I was actually getting an error code for the shifter and speed sensor. I ordered a shifter, which included the speed sensor, and replaced that part but the washer still didn't work. After doing some more research online, someone mentioned that the capacitor may be bad. After talking to my dad, who is an electrician, he said it sounded like my problem could very well be the capacitor.
Knowing that we'd been without a washer for almost two weeks at this point, I went ahead and ordered the...

Top loading washer would not agitate or spin h20 out after a clicking noise; the motor wouldn't engage or would start & then stop finally figured that it was the motor &/or capacitor Susan S. • Pelkie , MI • October 31, 2014
I found your site which was most helpful. I saw on your forum, that others had replaced a motor & capacitor with + results. I was willing to spend what I thought was a reasonable amount & your guarantee was the clincher. I knew that if I called the appliance store where we had purchased the washer in 1998, it would be very expensive & even more important, it would take many days as they would have to order the part & then schedule a service call. I installed the motor & capacitor & was...

Refrigerator would not cool and freezer would not freeze, light and cooling fan worked, compressor made a clicking sound every 60 seconds or so Steven J. • Seattle , WA • April 07, 2019
After watching a few videos on this site and on You Tube it seemed like the most likely culprits were the starter and the capacitor. I found them easily behind the back panel near the compressor and easily unplugged them. I found the part numbers on this site and ordered them. After a 5 minute installation the compressor came back to life, and my 10 year old refrigerator has a new lease on life.

The Compressor Overload Protector is an OEM replacement part for LG refrigerators. It plays an important safety role in protecting the compressor from damage due to excessive heat. Located near the compressor unit, the overload protector functions to shut off power to the compressor if temperatures become too high during operation.
Causes can include normal wear over time rendering it less responsive to temperature changes. Mineral or refrigerant deposits may also impede its ability to detect overheating conditions accurately.
Symptoms of a faulty overload protector include:
- Refrigerator fails to properly cool or the compressor does not run
- Circuit board or electrical component failure or burnout
- Lack of cold air production and higher than normal freezer/fridge temperatures
This OEM LG part is also compatible with some Sears/Kenmore models.

Not cooling Paul B. • Frederick , MD • January 15, 2017
8 y/o LG unit was not cooling or freezing. There was a clicking on the back side every 2-3 minutes. Used these 2 issues in a internet search and top 2 cited problems were dirty coils then bad PTC & OLP. Tool off the back panel, compressor was quie hot. Coils did not look excessively dirty but cleaned them anyway. DId not resolve the problem. The OLP & PTC recommended for my unit. were different than the original TSD and I thought I would have to return the parts. However, I got on a chat...

Compressor not running. James F. • Cudjoe Key , FL • April 02, 2014
I did some research. Found a comment on this website... shake the ptc component it was ratteling... there's a ceramic disc inside the ptc. if broken, this could be the source for the ratteling sound. Sure enough that was happening... one new ptc later an all is good. Ran fridge for 3 days now... no issues
It was gamble, took it.. and came out ahead. The capicitor looked as if was OK... it was not buldging... no obvious burnt marks anywhere.
Tricky part was getting the 'bale' wire reattached...

A loose hose. Adrian H. • Dayton , TX • June 30, 2021
I originally thought it to be my capacitor. But after installing the new one my machine still wouldn't wash, upon further inspection the hose that connects to the water level indicator on the control panel had popped a loose. I reconnected it and my washer is working just fine now. So try and do a complete inspection before spending unnecessary money ($125) like I did.
