Unplugged the stove. I had to remove mounting screws from under front panel. Then Remove the side panels in order to remove the trim. Under the trim there are two gold screws that hold the front panel in place. Unplug the membrane switch and remove the 4 screws that hold it in place. mount the new membrane switch and use plug it in. Then replaced all screws. Plugged stove back in. Replace your dishwasher's front control panel touch pad if buttons are unresponsive, lights won't illuminate, or the panel is cracked or damaged.
This is a known problem with this whirpool dishwasher, that the electronics in this panel essentially die (presumably due to moisture accumulation) after a few years -- about 4 years in my case. The only hard thing about replacing this part is that you need a "star" screwdriver to pull out all screws that hold the front panel. Took the 6 hex screws out and simply unplugged a couple of wires off the control panel. Called appliance parts pros and gave them the part number that was embossed on part. They had it in stock and shipped it. I received it within 3 days. Plug the wires back into the part and replaced the 6 screws. 10 minutes top to repair. Highly recommend you doing this.
