Mark S Eliot , ME January 13, 2021 Appliance: Kenmore Refrigerator, Sxs 10656234400 Water dispenser stopped working. I watched the Appliance Parts Pros repair video and decided to remove the front panel to diagnose the problem. While the repair video is excellent, I could not remove the ice/water dispenser front panel with a putty knife. On my model, 106.56234400, there is no clip that can be released by sliding a putty knife up under the front panel. It took a little effort but I was able to pop the left lower corner clip just by pulling it out with my fingers. Once the cover was off I could see that the putty knife had been sliding up under the dispenser frame and not applying any pressure to the bottom edge of the panel (the edge on the front panel is only about an eighth of an inch thick). The front panel on my model has two small slots on the bottom edge of the panel. I found that by inserting a large flat tip screwdriver up into those slots and prying gently outward, the clips popped out fairly easily. Too much pressure will put a dent in the thin metal door, so just enough to pop the clip. I took a couple of pictures to share but, unfortunately, that isn't an option here. Once the panel was off, I could see that the plastic clips holding the water dispenser switch in place had broken off. The clips, after years of use and thousands of switch actuation, must have failed due to becoming brittle and fatigued. The switch was fine but it was so loose in the bracket that it wasn't being actuated by the lever. Looking at the switch bracket on the ice dispenser side, I discovered that one of those clips was also broken. I ordered Bracket, Part Number AP6005965 and it arrived in less than 48 hours (express shipping). The old and the new brackets were identical, but the wiring on my model varied slightly from the model shown in the video. It only took a minute to sort that out and then the bracket installed exactly as described. Everything snapped and clipped back into place as shown in the video. The job couldn't have been any easier. My thanks to Appliance Parts Pros for their excellent videos, quality parts, reasonable prices, and fast shipping. Jonathan B Danville , CA October 01, 2018 Appliance: KitchenAid Refrigerator KSSS48QJX00 No water dispensing from the door! So this one took a little detective work... First, I assumed there was an issue with the water valve solenoid. Easy to pull the front kick plate and see the valve, but the tight space made it pretty hard to actually access. I pulled it off and tested the connectors with my volt meter to make sure it was getting power when the switch was depressed (it was not.) Had to use a couple of male electrical spade connectors to insert into the molex body for the volt meter leads. Glad this wasn't the issue because this particular valve is discontinued... So, next assumption was that it was the micro-switch. Off came the door handle, the cabinet faces (this is a built in), figuring how to remove the dispenser front plate, and there it was. The micro-switch was fine, but the plastic mounting pieces for the switch on the base plate had all snapped off and the switch was just hanging there. Not a great design to hold that switch, but probably pretty easy to assemble at the plant. No way to field repair this - only real solution is to replace the plate. Part came pretty fast -- 2 days ahead of earliest expected day -- and I had the entire thing back together in less than an hour. The plate is held by just 2 screws and all of the electrical connections are small molex fittings. I was surprised that this part was still in stock, and thrilled at the price. Wife is happy that the fridge is fixed (do you know how hard it is to live without a water dispenser?) and all done for a fraction of a service visit! Thanks AlliancePartsPros! Peter P Sonoma , CA July 24, 2023 Appliance: Kenmore Refrigerator 10657372700 Ice cube dispenser/flap was broken not actuating the ice bucket motor. Ice Door Kit, Control Bracket, and Ice Dispenser Guide were purchased. I followed two videos on replacing the parts. The Control Bracket WP2180226 / AP6005965, was straight forward and I discovered a snapped pin on the old bracket causing an electric switch to be out of place... that repair was easy. When it came to the hinges of the ice chute, I discovered the snap-in, on right side, of the hinge was cracked... this is why the pin escaped. This cracked part is molded into the entire enclosure and was a different-better hinge shown on the video, Ice Door Kit W10823377 / AP5985152. I used Gel Superglue in the cracked plastic, then JB Weld (15 hr cure) to make a U-shaped thin jacket on the hinge. After curing, I mounted the door flap, this time with a custom shaped very thin metal washer at the right side/outside which superglue was applied to the top two edges of the snap-in hinge to hold the washer, bridging the gap above the pin and strengthening the part similar to the fully enclosed pin in the videos. The new flap is working, the new flap return dampener (basically a plastic piston) seems a bit restrictive and takes quite a while for the flap to seal the ice chute. The ice and water dispensers are working again. Noticeably less pressure is needed to actuate the ice or water. Overall, a good repair with a bit of Mcgivering. If the crack had completely snapped the right side of the hinge, it would require replacing the entire enclosure, which doesn't seem to be a part available through your website. Sheila K Fredericktown , MO April 18, 2015 We hadn't been able to use the ice dispenser for years My husband kept saying we need to call someone to fix it. I decided to do a little research and see if there were any diy videos. So I did a general search of the brand of fridge. Your website popped up. I found the drawing of the general area where the dispenser is. I clicked on switch and saw it had a video. I was amazed at how informative it was. The plastic ice funnel was broken too, so I clicked on it and the plastic bracket, just in case. I ordered them on a Saturday, got them on Tuesday. I got back on the website on my laptop, set it beside me at the fridge and started in. Wow! In 20 minutes, I had everything replaced and back together. I flipped the breaker back on, cleaned out the ice reservoir and touch the handle. It worked! I put this website on my favorites list so I can have it at my finger tips anytime I need it. No more needing to "call the man" Read More... 135 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
