Fix a dishwasher with no display lights or unresponsive controls. This user interface board restores button function. Moderate DIY repair.
I started with Google searches for the problem, using the dishwasher model number to narrow down the number of results. When I found several posts in the forum on AppliancePartsPros.com from other people having the same problem with the same dishwasher, as well as solutions that involved replacing the control board, I decided to start with that. The repair was very easy, especially with the help of clear and well-paced videos showing exactly what to do and what to look for. I was able to... Read more
Fix a dishwasher that won't start, has no panel lights, or beeps randomly. This main control board regulates all cycles. Moderate DIY repair.
Indicator light would blink three times, make a sound, but the dishwasher would not run. After making sure there were no obstructions, no problems with seals, filters, and latch clean, I cut the power off and back on. The Dishwasher worked for a few more times. After that, cutting the power off and on no longer worked. I figured out what buttons to press and hold to find the error code (start/stop and cycle select), saw code 815, and then did a "hard reset" by pressing and holding other... Read more

Dishwasher won't start or beeps 3 times? Main control board manages cycles, temperature, and detergent. Plug-and-play replacement takes 30-60 minutes.
Two weeks ago, my dishwasher would not run. It would beep three times when you pushed the start button: the same signal it gives when the door is open. I used the troubleshooting steps I found at applianceblog.com to do a hard reset. (Hold START and WASH TEMP for five seconds, close the door, and wait 3 minutes) After that, it worked for about one week. When it started having the same issue again, the hard reset did not work. I lowered the control board and could see that there were no lights.... Read more
Dryer making rumbling noise or drying slowly? A worn blower wheel with a rounded center causes wobbling and poor airflow. Moderate DIY repair.
In the past, I replaced some electronic components on our gas dryer, the solenoid and the electronic ignitor, but the rest of the dryer looked more difficult to repair if needed in the future. I was wrong. I went unto AppliancePartsPros.com and watched some repair videos on dryers like mine that make big thumping sounds while drying. This happened when I googled my dryer model number in an attempt to find out is capacity, because I wanted our new dryer to have the same capacity. I found out... Read more
Dryer only runs on one setting or shuts off early? The timer controls drying cycles and heating. Takes about 15 minutes to replace with basic tools.
After calling Whirlpool customer support learned that a replacement timer would be $136. The CSR gave me the part number needed. Online I found AppliacePartsPros. I called and got a very personable CSR who took my order. I was assured the part was a genuine, new--not rebuilt--timer. My order was placed in minutes. Although I ordered standard shipping and my part arrived in 2 days!! Unfortunately Whirlpool had given me the wrong part number so I contacted AppliancePartsPros and reordered... Read more
Refrigerator not cooling but freezer works? A failed evaporator fan motor stops cold air circulation. Common DIY repair with video guide available.
Shut off power in the panel box - easier than getting at the plug behind the unit. Had to take out the lower full-width drawer and the two crispers next. Removed two screws on the shelf above the wide drawer and removed the two shelf parts. Next was removing a screw from each wide drawer support. Then I pulled the support forward about an inch to disengage it from a post towards the back. There is a wiring connection in the right-hand support you will need to disconnect. Next, I removed a... Control knob that mounts on the timer shaft to select drying times and cycles. Replace if cracked, broken, or won't grip the shaft properly. Includes clip.
This was by far the EASIEST repair I have ever done. All I had to do was remove the broken knob, the back panel and disconnect the old timer. I then connected the new, put it in place, and replaced the knob. After a test run, I put the panel back on and have been doing laundry since! Read more
Fix a refrigerator that's not cooling or has temperature control issues. This control board manages defrost and cooling cycles. DIY install in 30 minutes.
A bit of research on the internet indicated the most likely problem was with the defrost system. I found the service manual for the refrigerator and was able to determine that the defrost heater and thermostat passed the self test. The refrigerator would perform a forced defrost which resulted in a cold refrigerator. More research revealed that this particular refrigerator does not have a defrost timer, instead the defrost cycle is controlled via the Electronic Control board which is also... Read more
Fridge won't maintain set temperature or cycles on and off? This thermostat regulates cooling. 30-minute DIY repair with video guide available.
The 20 year old unit still serves us well, looks good and has been kept in good repair. The condenser fan had stopped so I removed, cleaned and oiled that motor. The decision was made to make an upgrade to the evaporator motor and control units so that the appliance could reasonably be expected to have extended service life. The Ice maker module had been replaced 7 years ago. I ordered the parts and have made the upgrade for temperature controller and the defrost control. If you are in a... Read more

Refrigerator not cooling but freezer icing up? The defrost timer controls the defrost cycle. Most DIYers replace it in 5-15 minutes with our video guide.
My problem first showed up as varying temperature in both sections of my old mid 1970’s Frigidaire model FPCI-170T-7 refrigerator, which is not listed on most appliance repair databases. Running on the warm side from time to time, as well as sudden fan noise (probably the fan blade hitting ice build-up on the evaporator coil) alerted me to a possible defrost system problem, since the compressor was cooling. The evaporator fan eventually failed after a day or so, and a major repair was... Read more

Fix a dishwasher that won't start, has flashing lights, or is completely unresponsive. This control board manages all cycle phases. Moderate DIY repair.
My GE dishwasher (GDT605PMM0ES) had started going in and out of service but if I unplugged it and plugged it back in it would work a few more times. Then one day that old trick didn't work anymore. Looked at what might be the issue on the internet and most signs pointed to the configured service machine control board or the configured Ui board. I ordered both, not really which was bad, but started with the Ui board first because the service machine control board showed it was receiving... Read more
