Refrigerator not cooling but freezer icing up? The defrost timer controls the defrost cycle. Most DIYers replace it in 5-15 minutes with our video guide.
My problem first showed up as varying temperature in both sections of my old mid 1970’s Frigidaire model FPCI-170T-7 refrigerator, which is not listed on most appliance repair databases. Running on the warm side from time to time, as well as sudden fan noise (probably the fan blade hitting ice build-up on the evaporator coil) alerted me to a possible defrost system problem, since the compressor was cooling. The evaporator fan eventually failed after a day or so, and a major repair was... Read more

Before we replaced the board, my wife tried to replace just the element. We had one we had ordered several years ago when this same thing happened. When that didn't work we replaced the board and could see where the old board was damaged so we figured this was the solution. It would have been except the bottom element my wife used to replace the old element (which was fine but had been thrown out figuring the new one was new so why keep the old one) was 1" shorter in the back than the old... One of the signs of this issue was a distinct change in sound when I opened the freezer door. I ordered a new motor and blade, not knowing exactly what it was. 2. I couldn't get water to dispense, so I changed the filter and that wasn't the problem. I ordered a water valve and crossed my fingers. These parts arrived... Read more
