Broken drum drive belt Bourque, N. • Rosenberg , TX • October 31, 2016
First, I did a search based on the problem I had with my model of dryer. The model number was on the door frame and was visible when I opened the dryer door. The problem was, when I pressed the button to start a dryer cycle, I heard a clicking noise and the indicator text changed to "Drying", but I could not hear or see the dryer drum turning. The search led me to a page that indicated my problem was usually one of 3 common causes. 1. Faulty door switch 2. Broken Drum drive belt 3. burned out...

Dryer drum problem Tonya B. • Ithaca , NY • December 24, 2022
A thumping sound (like sneakers in the dryer) started happening. We stopped using it so that it wouldn't get worse and potentially break more parts. Online research suggested rear drive shaft would be the problem. But also suggested while we have the dryer apart, would be smart to replace the belt and the slides/glides (green and white plastic tabs in front, attached to the door). We ordered all the parts from AppliancePartsPros.com and they arrived FAST.

Broken timer and knob Suzanne S. • Scotch Plains , NJ • July 07, 2019
This was by far the EASIEST repair I have ever done. All I had to do was remove the broken knob, the back panel and disconnect the old timer. I then connected the new, put it in place, and replaced the knob. After a test run, I put the panel back on and have been doing laundry since!

Loud squeaking noise from front top area of ge dryer as drum turned Christopher S. • Closter , NJ • July 12, 2016
Found the entire top bearing support plastic piece was completely worn through, the bearing slides had all disappeared some time ago. So it was obviously the problem. The felt trap duct (which is actually a drum seal along bottom front of drum so I don't know why they call it felt trap duct) had also disappeared, so a lot of lint was getting inside the front panel too. It's a very easy repair to change the bearing support; everything just pops out just like the video shows. Make sure you...

Push start switch on ge dryer Michael S. • Carlsbad , CA • February 26, 2017
I was trying to troubleshot a problem I had with my GE dryer not starting. I went to AppliancePartsPros.com because they have excellent DYI videos on how to make repairs. I determined that the problem was in the push start switch. I ordered the switch online and it took 3 days to arrive. It took 5 minutes to replace the switch and the dryer works perfectly.

The Dryer Bearing Slide (2-Pack) is an OEM replacement part for GE dryers. These slides are installed on the front panel of the dryer and support the drum as it rotates. They help reduce friction and wear, ensuring smooth and quiet operation during drying cycles. This pack includes two bearing slides, which are commonly used together in the dryer assembly.
Over time, bearing slides can wear down due to regular use, heat, and friction. When they become worn or damaged, the drum may no longer rotate smoothly, which can affect the dryer's performance and increase noise levels.
Symptoms of bad dryer bearing slides include:
- A loud squeaking or scraping noise during operation
- Difficulty rotating the drum manually
- Clothes taking longer to dry due to improper drum movement
- Visible wear or thinning on the existing slides
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Squealing dryer Jai P. • Rio Rancho , NM • January 08, 2021
I replaced the slide bearings a few years back. A few months later the rear bearing started to go so I replaced that one. Bad idea. Replace these two at the same time. The wobbling from the rear bearing failure caused accelerated wear on the slide bearings. Without the money to fix it I ran it as it was. Another bad idea. The drum not only chewed through the slide bearings, but eventually the assembly as well. I replaced the whole assembly and rear bearing at one time a couple days ago. It was...

The dryer door kept popping open. Debra S. • Peabody , MA • September 22, 2019
We ordered a door switch, dryer latch and strike plate. We realized that we only needed to replace the door switch. We watched a few videos and then replaced the switch. We couldn’t find a video for our model but they did give us a pretty good idea about what we needed to do. The hardest part was getting the original door switch out, all of the videos we watched showed us that it would pop out with a little pressure from a flat head screw driver, from the front of the switch. We could not get...

Black marks on clothes when drying Jennifer S. • Makawao , HI • July 20, 2025
Parts came super quick (2 days to Hawaii). I replaced the drum support shaft bearing, the front drum support and the slides on my GE electric dryer. I used the step by step video provided. The electrical panel on the top was different than the video but as suggested I took detailed pictures of it before I disconnected 20 or so individual wires to the control board. I couldn't take the entire top plate off the dryer because some of the wires were shared and spliced together from either side....

The original problem was that the drum would quit turning during drying operations. Randall B. • Moab , UT • April 08, 2018
Upon examination of the dryer, I noticed that the belt was intact, though a little worn and hard. However, I noticed that the belt had came of the idler pulley. So I put it back on and had the owners try it out on their next load of wash. It, once again failed to keep the drum turning. So I ordered a new belt and idler pulley (order # 8676164). I found it necessary to remove the drum, in order to change out the new pulley. However, while trying to reinstall the drum, we damaged some of the...

The Interlock Switch is an OEM replacement part for GE electric and gas dryers. This safety component monitors the door closure, preventing operation if the door is not securely closed and latched. The switch measures 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.
Symptoms of a faulty interlock switch include:
- Dryer failing to start or running with the door open
- Timer display not illuminated when start button is pressed
- Inability to open the dryer door during operation
- Dryer suddenly stopping mid-cycle before fully drying clothes
Causes relate to the internal component contacting the door frame over 50,000 open/close cycles potentially exposing wiring to wear. Regular cleaning the external switch area prevents dust or lint buildup skewing performance.
This genuine GE switch is compatible with Hotpoint and RCA dryers as well.
Note: Can be used as a dishwasher door switch on specific models. Check your model number for the most accurate results.

Melted door switch. Christopher K. • Greeneville , TN • February 03, 2024
The full story:
Dishwasher stopped running mid-cycle. When I first began troubleshooting I tried manually advancing the timer knob, and the machine would run. That led me to believe that the actual timer assembly was bad, so I replaced it. The dishwasher ran fine for a day, and then the same problem came back. This time, however, I also had to push in on the door to get it to run. I looked around online, and someone suggested that the door latch wasn't closing tightly enough. I adjusted the...
