After extremely poor support from WhirlpooI and researching numerous U-Tube videos, I fully troubleshot potential failed components and connections. All appeared to function properly, so I reassembled the unit and experienced the same problem as before. I then narrowed down the problem to either the Touchpad ($57+$8 shipping) or the control board ($295+shipping). This Charcoal Filter is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool microwaves. The charcoal filter is responsible for improving the air quality in the kitchen by removing impurities and odors from the air. It is used to remove smoke, grease, and cooking odors as it is drawn up through the vent fan. By trapping these particles, the filter helps maintain cleaner air in the kitchen and prevents odors from recirculating and affecting the taste and smell of your food.

Symptoms of a bad Charcoal Filter include:

  • Persistent odors in the kitchen after cooking.

  • Reduced airflow from the microwave's venting system.

Replacing the charcoal filter at regular intervals or when these symptoms are noticed ensures that your microwave continues to operate efficiently and keeps your kitchen air clean. This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Low airflow through vent; filter service indicated on display   Brent E. • Mountain View , CA • March 20, 2014

Replacing this filter was very easy: two screws hold in the grill cover at the top of the microwave, and then the filter just slides in and out of its holder. There was quite a bit of grease in the area, probably pulled there by the vent from the stove top. I cleaned the grease up and also hand-washed the wire-mesh filter on the bottom of the microwave with soap and warm water. Airflow when running the vent is now noticeably better. Read more
