Rather than fix the immediate problem with a new motor and for just a few dollars more since they're prone to failure anyway, I eliminated potentially future problems by just replacing the whole ice maker. Money well spent and my part arrived the day after I ordered it. The icemaker for this model Whirlpool refrigerator is an all-in-one integrated unit so it was simple to replace the old with the new. A total of 2 screws and 2 electrical connectors was all it took to make the replacement. Ten minutes tops. It did take a while (30-45 minutes) before the new unit began to make ice.
