Colin O Brewster , MA November 12, 2021 Appliance: Model GE CYE 22TSHBSS Fresh food section not cooling on GE French door refrigerator. Since the freezer and the lower part of the fresh food section was freezing. The evaporator fan was the likely issue. Shut off power in the panel box - easier than getting at the plug behind the unit. Had to take out the lower full-width drawer and the two crispers next. Removed two screws on the shelf above the wide drawer and removed the two shelf parts. Next was removing a screw from each wide drawer support. Then I pulled the support forward about an inch to disengage it from a post towards the back. There is a wiring connection in the right-hand support you will need to disconnect. Next, I removed a small triangular cover in the middle of the back wall and remove 5 screws holding the evaporator cover in place. You may have to use a heat gun at a low temperature or a hairdryer to melt any ice holding the cover from coming off. Lift the cover up and out once it is freed to expose the evaporator cover and fan. The is a wiring connection on the left side of the cover you will need to disconnect to get it out of the way. Disconnect the wiring harness to the motor You will now be able to just pull it out from where it is mounted. Take the silicone sleeve off the old motor and put it on the new motor. You can now put the new motor on the mounting slot and reconnect the wiring. Before starting to reassemble the refrigerator be sure all the ice is melted and the drain under the middle of the evaporator coil runs freely by pouring a small amount of warm water in it. Just reverse the process to reassemble all the parts. Connect the wiring on the left side of the evaporator cover and set it in place by tipping the bottom edge in and then pushing the top edge to the back. Install the 5 screws that hold the cover and then put in the small triangular cover. Next, install the two large drawer supports by putting the slot near the back over the plastic stud and posting the support back until you feel it click in. Then install the screw in each support. Be sure the wiring harness is accessible on the right support. Next, install the rear section of the shelf over the wide drawer. Connect the wiring harness for the front section of the shelf to the harness in the right-hand support and put the shelf in place. Put in the two screws securing the top shelf, replace the three drawers and the repair is done. All that is left is turning the power back on. This is a 30 to 45 minute job plus the time it takes to melt any ice. I used a 1/4” nut driver, a Phillips screwdriver and a heat gun. Philip B N Ft Myers , FL April 26, 2021 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator PYE22KSKBSS Lower fridge drawer freezing, rest of fridge warmer My 5 YO GE Fridge was freezing the deli meat drawer but not blowing cold air to the rest of the fridge. Replacing this fan solved my problem thanks to this excellent video. The only issue I had was that while disassembling I found the wiring harness at the 2:40 mark already unplugged and had to guess whether it was intentional or an oversight. I decided to plug it in upon reassembly and so far it seems to have been the correct choice. Thank you for this excellent video and supply of the part.
