This OEM part is a gearbox for trash compactors. The gearbox is the mechanism that turns the various gears in the trash compactor allowing it to perform its essential functions. If the trash compactor is no longer working properly, it might be time to change the gearbox. Thankfully, this is a relatively simple repair.To replace the gearbox, start by pulling the compactor away from the wall make sure the compactor is unplugged. Depress the foot pedal and pull the container drawer assembly forward while lifting it off the track. Next, remove the screws securing the mounting brackets and top panel. Slide the top panel back and lift it off. Carefully set the compactor on its side and remove the screws that secure the bottom panel. Pull the panel off and rotate the large drive gear counterclockwise to disengage the ram from the power screws. Place the compactor back to the upright position. Tape the directional switch lever away from the ram. Lift the ram out and pull out the power screw shields. Remove the ram stops and washers. Once removed, replace with the new gearbox assembly, and follow the prior steps in reverse order to reassemble the compactor.
