This carburetor insulator is a genuine MTD replacement part for appliances with small engines, such as lawn mowers, lawn tractors, lawn trimmers, snowblowers, chipper shredders, tillers, and leaf blowers. The purpose of a carburetor insulator is to keep the heat of the running engine away from the carburetor, which combines the air and fuel that ignites the engine. This keeps the engine from overheating and suffering damage as a result.While there is a chance that a damaged carburetor insulator could prevent the engine from igniting altogether, it is more likely that a damaged carburetor insulator will allow for unmetered air leaks into the carburetor. Unmetered air leaks will cause the engine to take in more fuel, reducing the fuel economy of a small engine appliance.
