W J Panama City Beach , FL February 26, 2023 Appliance: Maytag Washer MVWC565FW1 Agitator drive failed I had to cut the old agitator out with an oscillating saw in order to access the agitator drive. This is the second Maytag (MVWC 565) I have had to do this to. I first tried removing it by sliding straps under the agitator then then using a jack to pull it loose which did not work either time. One suggestion I have would be to remove debris from tub as you cut in order to prevent it from dropping from the inner tub into the outer tub. It was very difficult to remove the old one. Replaced the agitator. Installing the new one was a breeze. Charles A Springfield , OH December 03, 2023 Excessive noise while spinning for a few months then the agitator stopped working. Replaced the gear box and agitator. Obviously there were two problems. An internal gearbox problem causing the noise but the washer was still functional so I kept putting it off. Then the splines for the agitator and gearbox connection started to slip. It was the tub hub, but my agitator wasn't in the best of condition. It was dirty and the spline was starting to round. I am going to keep the new agitator and screw, but have also ordered a new tub hub..The original one's splines are as smooth as a baby's bottom. Read More...
