Marnie M San Jose , CA January 24, 2015 Whirlpool microwave door pushbutton broken would not open door Found the fix description online - purchased the Door Latch Bracket. I did need to remove the Microwave from the cabinet it was built into. Required removing the screws at the four corners of the trim piece surrounding the microwave. Then removed the oven with the frame bracket attached - removed the bracket, then needed a star shaped secure screwdriver to remove the microwave skin around the sides and top (remove the secure screws from the back and slide the skin toward the back and off). Once that was removed, looking behind the control panel from the side showed that the bracket was broken (the pin had snapped off). Was easy to replace the bracket by pressing it into the two holes (does take some pressure to pop it in). i purchased the spring, but didn't seem to need to replace it (not sure where it was supposed to go). Putting the skin back on required sliding it from the back into place from the back, just as it was removed. Note that since the door was stuck I couldn't read the model number, but fortunately this part worked. James S Upatoi , GA June 10, 2015 Appliance: Whirlpool Microwave Oven 1.7 Cubic Foot GT4175SPS1 Door latch broke door would not open I removed the outer cabinet using Phillips and Torx drivers, found the broken piece, and ordered it. Related online stories nicely described the process I thought was needed. The part arrived in 2 days, the repair took about 5 minutes. I opened the door from inside by pushing up on the lower latch, placed the long stem of the new part into the appropriate slot, put the peg in the inner mount first, then carefully pressed outward a SMALL amount on the outer mount and pushed the new bracket into place. Probably saved $100-200. NOTE: Fishing line tied to upper latch, mentioned elsewhere, lets you open/close the door until fixed, but the magnetron won't operate because a safety microswitch must be depressed by the stem on this part when the door closes. John W Johns Island , SC November 22, 2015 Appliance: Model MT4155SPQ-2 The microwave door release bracket was broken Ordered the part from Appliance parts pros. The price for the part was reasonable and the repair was very easy. The only real issue is that you need a security torx bit to remove the housing from the microwave. Other than that a #2 phillips screwdriver is all you need to do this job. Read More... 2 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
