Michael R Elkridge , MD March 15, 2014 Appliance: Maytag Undercounter Dishwasher MDB7601AWW41 Would not drain all the way The new drain pump solved the problem and was also quieter than the one it replaced. I saw that many people removed the dishwasher from under the counter to make the repair. Not sure if it was easier, but I was able to do the repair through the kick plate opening. This saved me from having to get the unit positioned back in the exact same place, leveled, and all the sound insulation trim re-installed. I did notice my leveling feet were extended more than half way. This may have made it possible to do it this way. Some specific techniques that I used: - Turn off the supply line and re-drain (Start button quickly followed by Cancel. Same button on my machine). This prevents the small amount of water that is released at the end of the drain cycle from adding to the water that will come out of the drain hose. - I did all the work lying on my right side using my right hand. It might be more difficult for a left handed person because of the access angles. - Use a shallow baking pan to catch the two or so cups of water that will come out of the drain hose when you remove it from the pump. - Use the replacement part to get an idea of where the electrical connection plug is. The one you are disconnecting will not be easily visible, so you will have to feel for it. But it can be reached and it is unplugged by pulling toward the back right corner of the washer. - The single torx screw that holds the pump bracket in place faces the front of the machine and it is accessible with a regular screwdriver by reaching in from the kick plate opening. - The tension screw on the hose clamp for the drain hose also faced the front on my machine. Not sure if this is true on all machines. I used a stubby nut driver for this. - The pump disconnects from the bottom pan of the dishwasher with a quarter turn counter clockwise. It can then be removed through the kick plate opening. - There did seem to be some silicone caulk around the connection to the dishwasher pan on the old part. Not sure what that was for and I did not put any back on when I installed the new pump. It already has an o-ring seal, so I didn't find it necessary (and would have been difficult to apply through the kick plate opening). - The sheet metal brackets have sharp edges. Be careful not to cut yourself when pushing them back in place. After disassembling the old drain pump, it was not obvious what was wrong, but the new pump works a lot better. Tom B Bayfield , CO November 13, 2015 Appliance: Maytag Dishwasher MDBH970AWB The maytag dishwasher would not drain about one inch of dirty water was left in the bottom of the dishwasher after the complete cycle was finished I turned off the breaker to the unit. Then I used a towel to soak up the water in the bottom of the dishwasher. Then disconnected the dishwasher from the cabinet.(two wood screws). I then pulled out the dishwasher where I could lay beside it. I checked both ends of the drain hose for trash blockages at the pump and at the garbage disposal end. I blew through it and there were no blockages. That meant that the pump was probably shot. I then removed the water pump. First I disconnected the small black and white wired electrical fitting to the pump. Then I disconnected the drain pump with one torque headed bolt. The pump then simply drops out from under the dishwasher. I ordered a new pump and received it in a prompt manner. I put a small amount of lube around the o-ring on the new pump, pushed it up into the hole that it came out of, reconnected the plastic electrical fitting(with the black and white wires) then pivoted the pump around until the torque bolt aligned with the galvanized bracket with threaded hole for the torque bolt. Then I reversed the rest of the process. Thats it, it worked. Read More... 19 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers

Richard D Middleburg , FL December 07, 2015 Appliance: Maytag Dishwasher MDB8600AWW Water was not draining all the way I had to pull the dishwasher out of the cabinet and tip it back to access the pump. The pump was held in place by a single T20 Torx fastener. Once that, the drain hose, and the electrical connector were removed, the pump came out with a 1/4 turn twist. I had to swap the retaining bracket over to the new pump. Installation was reverse of the previous steps. I reinstalled the dishwasher into the cabinet and ran a rinse cycle to test for leaks and make sure it was draining all the way. Everything checked out good.
