Thomas S Meriden , KS May 01, 2020 Appliance: Maytag Undercounter Dishwasher MDB7749AWW2 Broken door handle on Maytag dishwasher First of all, I should have taken it apart before I ordered parts. I thought all I needed was the handle and the door latch assembly. Ordered those parts and received them in 2 days. I soon found that there was another issue. The front panel has 2 plastic latches that the handle snaps in to. It also has a plastic stud that the handle screws to. One latch and the stud were broken. Then I ordered just the front panel - the plastic part that has the buttons and led lights. It arrived the next day. Be sure to turn off the breaker to prevent surprises! There are about 10 #15 Torx screws that hold the the door together. I removed them, unplugged 2 wires from the door latch and removed it. It's made of springy steel and just snaps out. The handle just fell out. The only tricky part was figuring out how to remove the electronics from the old panel. I used needle nose pliers to remove the ribbon cable and found 2 small plastic catches on the left side of the control assembly. I pulled them back with a small, straight screwdriver, slid the whole unit to the left and lifted it out. (You don't have to remove any other wires.) Next, attach the ribbon cable from the new front panel to the control unit and snap the unit back in place. Snap the handle into the front panel first and then use a 1/4" nut driver to install the screw that holds it. Then snap in the new door latch, reattach the 2 wires and all that is left is to screw the door back together. It was actually pretty easy, took about 25 minutes. I've never tried anything like this before. If I can do it, anyone can.
