Whirlpool W10823377 Ice Door Kit OEM Part

Ice Door Kit, Control Bracket, and Ice Dispenser Guide were purchased. I followed two videos on replacing the parts. The Control Bracket WP2180226 / AP6005965, was straight forward and I discovered a snapped pin on the old bracket causing an electric switch to be out of place... that repair was easy. When it came to the hinges of the ice chute, I discovered the snap-in, on right side, of the hinge was cracked... this is why the pin escaped. This cracked part is molded into the entire enclosure and was a different-better hinge shown on the video, Ice Door Kit W10823377 / AP5985152. I used Gel Superglue in the cracked plastic, then JB Weld (15 hr cure) to make a U-shaped thin jacket on the hinge. After curing, I mounted the door flap, this time with a custom shaped very thin metal washer at the right side/outside which superglue was applied to the top two edges of the snap-in hinge to hold the washer, bridging the gap above the pin and strengthening the part similar to the fully enclosed pin in the videos. The new flap is working, the new flap return dampener (basically a plastic piston) seems a bit restrictive and takes quite a while for the flap to seal the ice chute. The ice and water dispensers are working again. Noticeably less pressure is needed to actuate the ice or water. Overall, a good repair with a bit of Mcgivering. If the crack had completely snapped the right side of the hinge, it would require replacing the entire enclosure, which doesn't seem to be a part available through your website.

The parts provided fit perfectly, but my old Kenmore 106.56864602 fridge didn't follow the disassembly directions on the site. To remove the front panel, pull the water drain catcher forward to expose two 1/4 inch screws. After removing the screws, you can then lift off the front panel and disconnect the ribbon cable. There is another plastic housing on the front of the door held on with screws that appears to be glued into place. Thankfully removal isn't required. Do NOT attempt to slide a putty knife under this plastic part if you are working with a Kenmore 106.56864602. Moving the control panel out of the way is somewhat tricky because of the glued-on plastic part mentioned earlier. Use tape to hold the control panel against the freezer door handle in an upward to the right position. Follow Matt's installation video until you get to the part describing how to remove the pin. Pop up the right side of the pin with a screwdriver then lift right and outward. The FixIt video shows this step. The remainder of the steps in Matt's video are correct and make for easy repair. Take special note of Matt's instructions to re-attach the ice shoot holder to the upper left edge. Failure to properly secure this clip will prevent the ice door from closing properly. Test the door action 2-3 times and be sure to listen for the "thud" at the end of the cycle. I disconnected the metal bracket holding the water tube and moved it to the right to make accessing the ice door parts easier. This repair took a bit longer than expected due to problems getting access to the ice door,. However, this repair is something anyone with a little patience can do with a screwdriver, putty knife, 1/4" nut driver, and needle-nose pliers.

Bought your repair kit and watched the video. The repair took 5 minutes and solved the problem. Saved me easily a 120 dollar service call. Thank you.

Got new door kit for the Kenmore model 10656612500. After I took the unit apart, I found that the door was hinged by a pin with a spring. One of the plastic tabs that mounted the pin was broken off, so apparently needed a new front housing. The front housing was not available online so I was left to improvise with what I had. Upon further study, I noticed an extra plastic tab next to the broken one, so improvised a longer pin to hinge the swivel pin and spring for the ice door. It was a tight fit so I couldn't drill a hole in the adjacent plastic tab, so I used a soldering iron to melt a hole in it. After some jockeying about, I got the new door mounted, and it all works great now. I thought this may be of some help to others with a similar problem.......good luck

After reviewing the video, I ordered the part kit for my refrigerator. The parts arrived within 3 days, being a pure procrastinator, I waited until Friday night to do the repair. With the exception of not wearing gloves, my hands moved just like those in the video and the repair was completed just as if the other guy did it. Level of detail was perfect, parts fit as designed, 15 minutes later project was complete. I had to rate the repair as easy because I had the video to show me how to do it before I started. Without the video, the job would have been much harder.
