Wilton T Huntley , IL July 17, 2015 Appliance: Maytag Gas Dryer PYG2200AWW It made a loud noise and would stop after awhile after it cooled it would run again for a short time and repeat the cycle and kept getting shorter and shorter I watched the video at your website. I unplugged the electric first. When I opened up the machine up, It was loaded with lint.I found the source was a hole in the vent tube outside the machine. I fixed that first . The lint had been sucked back into the machine. The first half hour was spent vacuuming out all the lint and then I could proceeded with the motor change. I followed the video exactly. I removed the screws at the two front corners, after lifting the top and controls and tying it to cabinet handles above, to keep it out of the way. I took the screws out of the vent blower cover and removed the retaining rings. First one on the front end of the motor shaft, then the large one around the center. After pulling the fan off I removed the other retaining ring. I had some trouble getting my arm inside the machine to disengage the Idler pulley. (Too many sharp braces and too small an area for my arm. But finally got my shoulder under the front of the inside drum and got it disengaged. Lifting the drum out and putting it aside and cleaning the massive amount of lint, then removing the retainer clamp near the pulley end of the motor and putting all the little screws and parts in a plastic bowl to keep them intact and safe. Lifting up and twisting the whole motor, disengaged it and I put it aside. My dryer motor was exactly the same as the new one so no adaptation was necessary. I put the new motor into place the same way I removed the old one. I reassembled the retaining clamp near the pulley end. Then it was just removing the old belt and putting the new belt into place and lifting the drum, setting the whole thing into place and had the same problem getting my arm under the drum to re engage the idler pulley, but finally got it done. I reassembled the blower fan and put all the clamps and retaining rings back on. I reassembled the blower front cover and finally, I put the front of the dryer back onto the lower pegs and put the two screws back in the front corners. I put the top down and snapped it into place. I replugged it into the electric receptacle and started it up and let it run long enough to know the fix had worked. Barbara H Meredith , NH March 12, 2014 Magic Chef Dryer Stopped Working After troubleshooting the problem, with the help of Appliance Parts Pro, it was evident the motor was burned out. Not being able to afford a new dryer, a DIY repair was the only option. While I considered purchasing a used machine, I realized that would only be buying a whole new set of potential problems. After watching an instructional video or two, I found the replacement part here on appliancepartspro.com, and it arrived within a couple days. With minimal tools, and virtually no experience with DIY appliance repair, I had the new motor installed within 40 minutes. I literally saved hundreds of dollars by repairing the machine on my own. Clark M Larkspur , CO December 09, 2019 15 year old motor After researching a new dryer, and finding out how expensive and lower-quality they have become, I elected to rebuild our fifteen-year-old high-end Maytag dryer. I replaced the motor, the idler assembly, the wheel bearings, and glides. The total cost was about $300 and it took about 2 hours total. It's running like a top now and is essentially rebuilt. This was a much better outcome than purchasing a new dryer and trashing the old one. I would rate my skillset as high, but I don't see why anyone couldn't research how to do this and accomplish it on their own. The AppliancePartsPros videos, YouTube, and other sources total research time about 20 or 30 minutes. I highly recommend you consider doing this if your dryer motor fails. Michael M Doylestown , PA January 02, 2020 Appliance: Maytag Gas Dryer PYG2300AWW Intermittent squeaking got worse and worse; then dryer would no longer start Scanned the typical list of problems for my unit (Maytag PYG2300AWW) on AppliancePartsPros.com. Watched a video on how to open up and inspect the dryer's parts. I noticed that one of the rear rollers did not spin as easily, but it did not explain the squeaking. Also found that the pulley wheel seemed fine. That took me to the drive motor. I tried turning the shaft of the motor, and it could barely be nudged. After using a meter to check that the timer/start device was still functioning, I decided the drive motor was the main culprit. I ordered a new drive motor and also ordered the rear roller replacement kit (may as well fix that while everything is opened up). The parts arrived on the exact day estimated. I watched a video on AppliancePartsPros.com on how to replace the drive motor, and another video on how to replace the rollers. Had to buy a new tool to properly handle some snap rings, but that was affordable. Repair went smoothly and the dryer is working like a charm.
