Gregg H Bismarck , ND July 19, 2017 Appliance: Whirlpool Washer WFW94HEXW2 Made a loud noise while spinning. Took the back cover off, noticed the bolt holding the rotor on was broke off in the shaft which wore the stator and rotor. So I drilled out the broken bolt and extracted it with an easy out and replaced the stator the rotor and the bolt. Works great ! I maybe had 2 hours time in it and that includes taking it out of the laundry room and into the garage to work on it and back. Robert E Mountain Village , CO May 01, 2017 Appliance: Whirlpool Washer WFW94HEXL2 Squeeking/braking sound at the end of a spin cycle whilpool duet with rotor/stator Seen others with this symptom but no insight into the correct fix. My turned out to be a failed Rotor/Stator bolt. When I removed the back cover, there was the slightest wiggle in the Rotor (beige plastic disc over the Stator). Thought it was loose but when I went to tighten the bolt, the head came off with no effort. Now the bolt was sheared off in the drum/bearing. I secured a removal tool and was able to get the old bolt out. Ordered and installed the new bolt and the sound magically disappeared. Apparently at the end of a spin cycle, there is quit a bit of current between the rotor and stator and if the rotor is loose, the magnetic current will cause the two to touch and hence the braking sound. Cant believe this little part was the fix but it was! Read More... 5 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Wrench Set
Timothy P Edmonds , WA March 20, 2020 The bolt holding stator/rotor sheared off in shaft Removed the back cover. (Glad I used my power tool to remove all the screws) I then removed the sheared off part of the bolt using drill and easy-out tool. It was a straightforward install of the new bolt. I added a little bit of blue Loctite even though the bolt already had some dry thread sealer. I torqued it down enough to hold everything snug. I also replaced the cap on the water pump filter as I cracked it when I removed it. Tip: Don't use pliers even with a rag to cushion or be more careful than I did. The cap is a discontinued part but Appliance Parts Pros had one! I also ordered a new water pump but I didn't need it. Keeping it for future though as it was not an expensive part. The washer works great now. Read More... 5 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Adjustable Wrench, Nut Drivers, Pliers, Socket Set
