Jeffrey R Chicago , IL September 29, 2019 Both of the cables holding the dryer door up when opening were broken. - opened dryer door and removed (pry up)the 2 plastic pieces that secure ends of cables in the door - remove lint filter - put some cloth into lint filter to keep screws from falling in - took out the two screws that secured the lint filter to dryer top - pried the top up at front of dryer - used 2 pieces of wood to hold the top up about 10 inches. - taped paper envelopes below the 2 screws securing the front to frame, in case i dropped a screw. - removed the 2 screws securing the dryer front to the frame - pull the dryer front panel forward a few inches - slide rectangular end of cable through hole from inside front panel - put the rectangular end into slot on dryer door and replace the plastic piece - make sure the cable is running though slot of plastic block that is immediately over the hole - connect end of cable to spring. - reattach front to frame, remove paper,. - lower top, reattach linter filer to top - remove the cloth Read More... 2 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers

Walter B Kingston , WA September 13, 2025 Both support cables on our 44 year old kenmore dryer door broke within a couple of days I ordered replacement cables and two springs since I had replaced the cables once before *and* one of the springs had disappeared down into the bowels of the dryer case. I wasn’t concerned about the missing spring but figured I would replace both of them since I was already in there. The most difficult part was hooking the spring into the end of the cable while they were about a foot down inside the case. Once together, everything works like it should. My wife is now very happy.
