Charles F Ashburn , VA October 05, 2019 Appliance: Kenmore Dishwasher 66512793K310 Upper basket rails were falling apart While this is a Whirlpool dishwasher, I have the Kenmore Elite version of it. I believe them to be identical for parts. A little background: The first symptom I had of problems was plastic bits from the ball bearing retainer strips in the slides falling out. Then ball bearings falling out. A common problem with this dishwasher. When disassembling the upper basket, some of the gray plastic pieces were very brittle and easily snapped off. So I ended up replacing all of the plastic pieces related to the slides (adjusters, retainer pieces, etc). Poor choice of materials on the part of Whirlpool (dishwasher only 5 years old and all of it was falling apart). Once removing the washer from under the counter (two tabs screw to the underside of the countertop and there is a trim piece a the base that should be loosened or removed), the insulation blanket needs to be removed. Then there are two screws on either side of the outside of the tub that is moved to pull the slides and upper basket out. Make sure you support the basket as you are doing this - else the basket will drop inside the tub. I easily did it by myself, but FYI. Once the upper basket assembly is out, each slide has a gray plastic tab on the end of the slide facing out that needs to be depressed to release the slides. Note that these BOTH broke off on light pressure when I was removing the slides. Hence my need to replace all the plastic bits. The slides slide over a tab at each end of the "adjuster". You must replace the adjusters if those tabs break. The left-hand new slide that was sent to me did not work - somehow they reversed the portion of the slide that attaches to the tabs on the adjuster and it was impossible to lock it in place. APP sent me a new one right away (thanks). If all you have to do is replace the slides, it's a 10 min job. If you replace all the plastic pieces it takes an hour to 90 min. Now that I have done it, I could do it again in 30 min. There are spring-loaded ratchets as part of the adjusters that are the only thing that takes a little patience. Note that everything inside can be replaced with only a small standard screwdriver or tiny pry bar (some tabs need to be lifted on the piece called the "adjuster positioned". Everything can be put back together on the upper basket assembly with no tools except the adjuster lever (metal bar in front that raises/lowers the upper basket) pivot screws. These take a tiny nut driver or wrench - I think it was 1/8th. Only the screws holding the rails to the tub and the under-counter tabs and trim piece need tools once the basket is back together. Great APP service, crappy Whirlpool plastics. Read More... 15 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers
Gerald S York , PA February 02, 2016 Appliance: KitchenAid Undercounter Dishwasher KUDE70FXPA3 Kitchenaid dishwasher top rack falling apart Ordered numerous replacement parts. Started with the tracks which required pulling the washer out of the cabinet to reach the screws. Pushed it back in and re-secured. Then stared on the rack and replaced the rack adjusters and various clips. Everything is straight forward and easy to replace. I originally called a local repair place to have them repair it. They came out and said they needed to order parts and they would call back. A week went by and I followed up with them. Had to leave a message for a call back and to this day never got the call back. So I decided to do the repairs myself. I ordered the parts from AppliancePartsPro from the easy to read diagram. I placed the order at 2:43PM on a Friday and received the parts at 12:23PM the next day. Less then 24 hrs! and I only paid for regular shipping. What more could you ask for! Great experience. Lynda F Tujunga , CA August 29, 2015 The small pins on the upper rack adjuster came off on both side of the upper basket all at once! Temporarily, I used electrical ties to get the basket in place. Not very sophisticated, I know, but somewhat creative and with a big family, it worked till I could order and receive the parts I needed. In my frustration, I turned to the internet and found AppliancePartsPro.com. What a joy it was to find a site that was so easy to locate the parts I needed to make the repairs. The illustrations are very clear and it would be difficult to make a mistake with so much clarity in the site design. It was such a relief to know I ordered the correct parts. When the parts arrived ... on time as promised! ... I sat down with my grandson and we talked our way through it ... absolutely no problems installing the new parts. Thank you. You made my life so easy! The dishwasher is working like new! Read More... 28 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
William K Tallahassee , FL October 22, 2017 Top rack wheel clips broken The replacement kit is a far superior design made with metal instead of plastic and a better mechanism for raising and lowering the rack. The wheels are held on much better than the weak pressure clips on the original part. I’m very happy with the part and it was easy to install.
