Bill T Lake Orion , MI April 08, 2017 Appliance: Model KENMORE REFRIGERATOR Damaged valve It all came back to me about draining all the water out of your refrigerator if it will be stored for a few months especially if it is in your garage, in Michigan IN THE WINTER. Needless to say the diverter valve froze up and broke. The repair was just a matter of removing to electrical connector, 3 Quick connects for water and 2 screws. The toughest part was removing the quick connects for the water. I would also like to stress to make sure you cut the old ends off the water lines and make sure you push them ALL the way in to their respective connections. I connected mine and turned the water on and checked for leaks. None and thought I was done. As I was purging the system I was reminded that the waterline to the ice maker and door water are not pressurized until the solenoid is activated. As I filled and emptied my first purge container the "inspector" walked up to check my progress and asked about the puddle behind the frig. A quick check of the connections revealed the door water line was not fully inserted. A quick push and no more leak! Read More...
