Brian L Sacramento , CA November 21, 2019 Appliance: Maytag Electric Dryer MDE5500AYQ Dryer was making a loud noise in use I disassembled my dryer and found that the fan(blower wheel) was "free-spinning" on the motor shaft. Note: the fan drive was frozen on the motor shaft, this was the threaded type of motor and fan assembly. I was able to remove the fan drive by using vice-grip pliers, hammer and a combination wrench to hold motor from turning. Also Note: the fan Assembly/Drive removes by turning "CLOCKWISE". The drum roller was removed by using snap-ring pliers. I vacuumed excessive lint from the interior of the dryer cabinet and reassembled the dryer. I was able to take the dryer apart remove all defective parts. Reinstalled new drive motor, blower wheel, belt and drum support rollers. I'm 66 years old and when the parts arrived, I installed everything within 2 hours and my dryer runs like new. This was a lot cheaper than buying a new washer and dryer.
