Dorothynocerino for Model Number PDW9700N0011 We noticed a burning smell coming out of the dishwasher. We took the panel off the front and it looks like the control unit needs replacing. There was also what looks like a flat plastic type of strip that when I look at the diagram of the parts, it is the piece that goes from the right side of the control panel to the inside of the unit that seems to have burned. Is this a major repair? Should I be considering replacing the unit It is approx 9 years old now.
Answer Dorothy, Sounds like you're referring to the keypad assembly WD34X11158 / WD34X11158 key pad assembly. It is adhered to the top of the door and the "ribbon" connector is inserted through a slot in the panel, and is routed through the door and attaches to the control module WD21X10370 / WD21X10370 module control assembly. If the electrical shock/short was big enough, it could have damaged/burnt the keypad. You may want to replace both parts, based on your description. Whether you repair or replace the machine is up to you, but a repair is less than a replacement, and you may get a few more years of service out of the machine. Read More...
