Brett F. for Model Number DV407AEW/XAA-0001 Replaced Heating Element assembly as per the video, took pictures of wiring prior and replaced correctly. Put back together as instructed, started dryer and let run for about a minute, opened dryer and smoke was coming out of the dryer. Took the dryer back apart and verified that the wiring was correct and it happens to match exactly to the video. I have the heating element assembly back out and not sure if I should try it again.
Answer Hello Brett, You should start the unit momentarily with the front off to see where the smoke is originating. Be aware that lint is highly flammable and should be removed with a vacuum cleaner before re-starting. Also be aware that if the unit is run too long with the cabinet open, since the air flow is disrupted, it can damage the heating element. Sometimes when a new element is energized, the new will "burn off" producing smoke and a distinctive hot smell. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Friday, February 19, 2016
