Katie for Model Number Amana NFW 7200 TW

This washer is about 4 years old, and it suddenly started showing "ND" on the display and dinging. I found lots of questions like this on the internet, so it must be a common problem for this washer. My husband has disassembled the pump twice, and found nothing inside of it, and he says that it looks OK (but he is an attorney, not an appliance man). I talked to your very nice lady on the phone, as I was going to order a new pump. She says that there are 2 pumps: a drain pump, and a sump pump. Which one do I need to order? We also replaced the drain hose to make sure that there was no obstruction in it. It worked for about 3 days, and has now begun dinging again. Thank you!

Answer

Hello Katie, The pumps on these are common to fail without looking or sounding bad. The impeller will separate from the motor shaft and although it sounds like it is working, it cannot pump the water. If you replace the drain pump WPW10175948, it will correct the issue. For informational purposes, the sump pump recirculates the water during the wash so the detergent doesn't wind up at the bottom of the load.
