Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Drain Pump Assembly (Washer) (Part Number: OEM18025302)

Susan J. for Model Number NFW7200TW Amana

I am getting the error code ND (no drain.) I unplugged it, checked the drain pipe to make sure it wasn't clogged or pinched. I plugged it in, then turned the power on, and press the rinse and spin cycle only button. It worked. The next load went through the entire wash cycle. Then the ND error code started again and hitting the rinse and spin cycle only worked for a few more loads. Now the ND error code occurred on the rinse and spin cycle only. I turned it off and unplugged it, waited an hour, plugged it in, turned it on, and pressed spin only. It drained and spun as usual. I couldn't find any solutions/answers about this issue. Does this problem occur when a pump is going out?

1 Answer

Susan, It doesn't sound like a drain pump problem, at this point. The control board is "looking" for the pressure switch WP34001324 to reset to the empty mode/circuit within a few minutes from the start of the drain cycle. If the control doesn't see the change in the circuit, it can produce the "ND" code. First, disconnect the pressure hose 34001436 from the pressure switch and blow in the end of the hose, this will usually clear any debris or sediment that may have developed in the tube. Also check and make sure the hose isn't twisted or kinked, that can restrict the air flow. If the "ND" code persists check or replace the pressure switch. The main control board should be the last resort if the problem persists.

Can you provide contact info for PLASET - ITALY? They are the manufacturer of the 34001340 drain pump in both my washing machine (a front loading HE Amana model NFW7200TW10) and those of several other washing machine manufacturers. What I seek ultimately is a replacement impeller kit or an "overlay" kit (a duplicate of the impeller assembly [sans the shaft] that fits directly over and can be glued to the current impeller assembly). As seems to be the case with MANY other individuals, a coin somehow got lodged in my impeller assembly and "chewed" the impeller fins off, leaving only the stub portion of the impellers. With this being such a prevalent occurrence, and with the replacement pump assembly going for over $100 (with the washing machine manufactures...you can find them for 1/2 that price on the Internet), it would seem that either the manufacturer or someone who knows something about reverse-molds and engineering, could come up with a simple, cheap (I'm talkin' a dollar or two) plastic overlay that could fit directly over and be glued to the current impeller blades.

Dick, Unfortunately the manufacturer has not come up with a impeller repair kit and the only way to get the impeller is to replace the drain pump assembly.

Hello Tony, There is one screw that prevent the pump from moving around on the base. If removed the pump can be rotated so that the tabs can be removed from the keyhole shaped holes in the mount. The pump comes with this mount so you shouldn't have to bother with it.

Hello Wade, I'm sorry but we can only sell the parts made available by the manufacturer. This question should be directed to the manufacturer since they control part availability.

Katie for Model Number Amana NFW 7200 TW

This washer is about 4 years old, and it suddenly started showing "ND" on the display and dinging. I found lots of questions like this on the internet, so it must be a common problem for this washer. My husband has disassembled the pump twice, and found nothing inside of it, and he says that it looks OK (but he is an attorney, not an appliance man). I talked to your very nice lady on the phone, as I was going to order a new pump. She says that there are 2 pumps: a drain pump, and a sump pump. Which one do I need to order? We also replaced the drain hose to make sure that there was no obstruction in it. It worked for about 3 days, and has now begun dinging again. Thank you!

Hello Katie, The pumps on these are common to fail without looking or sounding bad. The impeller will separate from the motor shaft and although it sounds like it is working, it cannot pump the water. If you replace the drain pump WPW10175948, it will correct the issue. For informational purposes, the sump pump recirculates the water during the wash so the detergent doesn't wind up at the bottom of the load.

Hello LuLu. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the pump WP34001340 is bad and will need to be replaced in the unit.
