How to Troubleshoot & Replace Bosch AP2804248 / 00165242 On / Off Switch

Something on my Bosch dishwasher breaks every year. These guys are my go to parts suppliers for this dishwasher- always have the3 parts I need. See you in about 10 to 12 months. 

Ordered starter button to replace broken one; unfortunately needed new switch as well. 

Watched the videos on Appliance Parts Pros and followed the super easy instructions to replace the power button and the cabinet mounting bracket that had come loose. Saved me so much time and now my wife thinks I am useful! 

I had to remove the front of the dishwasher, open the electronics compartment to expose the switch. The switch is mounted to the chassis with 4 dainty tabs that are easily broken when the switch is pushed in too hard. Ours broke on the original switch. The new switch is the same design so we will depress it with great caution in the future. The actual job was easy, lots of examples on You Tube on how to perform this task. 

Found the main power switch on our 23 year old Bosch dishwasher had all its locating tabs broken off. Had to order a new one. Install went well, but still no power. Looked up schematic on the web, found no L1 power at pin 4 of power switch. Followed it back, found melted wire nut in junction box under base of machine. Have enough wire on power cord to re-terminate hot, neutral, and ground. Dishwasher works. Found broken tine from dish rack in wastewater pump impeller. Probably caused high current on the pump motor. 

I looked on the parts website and spotted the switch. I called to tech support for confirmation that this was indeed the right part. The technician was pleasant and knowledgeable about installation and verified the one part was all I needed. I received the part on time as scheduled and it took me about 30 minutes to install the switch. The anchor to the sheet metal of the panel was cut differently than the original part(17 years old) therefore I had to drill a new hole to screw in the anchor. It all went very smoothly and I am most impressed at how easy it was to make this repair. Great telephone support. My son-in-law replaced a total of three parts and it ran one complete cycle. It would not run again, so we gave up and returned the parts.
