How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP3966072 / 5304458371 Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly

The refrigerator was purchased in 2004 right after we moved into our first home. So ten years later the ice maker was non operational and required to be replaced. We ordered a new replacement icemaker to be able to have ice on demand. The ice maker arrived and my daughter changed out the ice maker with no major problems. The main issue was being able to get the ice maker properly level so no water would run over the sides of the ice maker. It was so easy to install that pretty much anyone could do that. We utilized a small 1/4' drive socket set with a small level. 

CHECKED MICRO SWITCHES, AND THEY WERE GOOD. CHECKED THERMOSTAT, AND IT WAS GOOD. CHECKED MOTOR AND IT WAS GOOD. CHECKED ICE MOLD HEATER, AND FOUND IT TO BE OPEN. THE HEATER IS STAKED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE ICE MOLD. AT THIS POINT I DECIDED THAT IT WAS NOT WORTH MESSING WITH AS I FOUND ONE OF THE PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWS HOLDING THE HEATER TO THE ICE MOLD WAS BADLY CORRODED, AND WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE. I WOULD HAVE HAD TO TRY AND DRILL OUT THE SCREW & CHASE THE THREADS. I GAVE UP AND BOUGHT A NEW ICE MAKER. 

Changed ice maker 

Being mechanically capable, I troubleshot the ice maker to see if it was either the ice maker or the water control valve not working correctly. After checking all connections on the ice maker, I filled up the ice maker tray assemble with water and walked away for @ 20 minutes. If the ice maker was fully operational, I'd have ice. If not, no ice. With my meter I found out that the part that was broken costed @ 2/3 the cost of a new ice maker. So I just said to myself.... buy the whole replacement icemaker. I got it in two days and and installed it w/o any issues. Now I got ice on demand. 

Replaced the unit 

Replaced it following the directions from your web site and purchasing new ice maker from your site....Easy and good video...Hard to get nut driver on screws on ice maker due to the location and you can't see the screws.... 

Ordered new ice maker, pulled refrigerator away from the wall, turned off water, loosened two screws, unplugged old ice maker and removed. Reversed for install - took about 10 minutes total.

Watched video on AppliancePartsPros.com then installed both ice container and icemaker in refrigerator 

Installed parts (new ice maker) The parts were at my door in a day.
