First we replaced the heat diffuser by just unscrewing the 3 screws and replacing the part. When the dryer was turned back on we realized that it was not put on properly. We looked up how to replace a diffuser on the net and then realized you need to take out the drum to replace it. That was challenging and time consuming but we did get it fixed.
