How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP6031056 / WE04X24550 Timer

Replaced timer

Removed 2 bolts holding in the control panel. Removed timer knob and the torx screw holding the timer in place. Rotated the timer assembly in the bracket and removed it. Swapped over the wires to the new timer assembly one wire at a time. Reinstalled knob assembly. There is a metal sleeve inside the knob assembly the makes it fit snug on the the timer shaft. The sleeve pulled out of the knob assembly and was still stuck on the shaft for the old switch. Make sure that you transfer the metal sleeve off the old switch (if it comes out) and reinstall it in the knob assembly. If you don't the knob will be loose and will not fit snugly on the new timer switch shaft. The whole repair took about 10 minutes, it was a direct replacement. I have been drying laundry since! Appliance part pros is awesome! I ordered the part and I had it the next day. Thank you!! 

Replaced the timer and worked ok. Received the part in a timely manner. This is the third time that I have used Parts Pro for various break downs and everything has went well. 

Replacement 

I did a voltage test on the wires to the start button. There was no power to the start button. Then checked power to the timer switch and had 120 volts to the timer. I then found that the knob was spinning on the timer shaft which allowed the timer to remain in the off position. I turned the timer shaft with a pliers and everything worked. Conclusion I ordered a new timer and timer knob. 

Ordered the timer and replaced it along with a new knob. I'm an electrician and electrical engineer so the repair was an easy one. I would not recommend the job for a typical DIY'er.
