How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP6032628 / WE04X25280 Dryer Timer

The selector knob and timer quit working on our GE dryer. We noticed the plastic selector knob was cracked inside when we pulled it off. We decided to order a new timer along with the selector knob just in case the new knob didn't solve the problem. We put on the new knob as easy as we pulled it off and the dryer would turn on again, however it was not going off in the selected amount of time it was supposed to. So it turns out we did need the timer part as well. These parts came in the mail in about 2 days so we were able to fix the problem before having to go to the laundry mat to dry clothes. 

Replaced the timer and knob. 

My wife was doing laundry, all of the sudden dryer wouldn't start. Not an expert but I figured out that the problem was the timer, so after doing some research found the best prices for the parts i needed at Appliance Parts Pros. Quick delivery and perfect fit. 

Unplugged. Removed backsplash. Used a multimeter and set to Ohms to check for continuity. Tested each part under backsplash (must remove wires at each point of contact to get an accurate reading). Continuity for the timer was reading infinite (should read zero if part is good). Replaced timer. BUT! The old knob for the part is not compatible with the new timer part. Ordered new knob which fits the new timer part. 

Ordered replacement, came in quick. I thought it was pricy but what is not today. Replaced the part, dryer works great now. Took the old controller to the bench, disasimbled, lubed, and it fixed my problem with the original. So, dryer is working fine with the new part, wife is happy, and I have a replacement part if needed. 

Replaced 

I originally called a repair man and he quoted me $360 for part and work. I found this website, bought the part and did the work myself. I replaced the dryer timer with no issues, the tutorial videos really explained everything I needed to do. 

Removed the cover and replaced the dryer timer, replaced the cover and installed the new knob. While we had the dryer open for repairs we vacuumed the lint and debris out of the inside. 

Removed and installed a new timer. Very DIY friendly 

Replaced it with a new control unit. I watched the video on it which was quite accurate and helpful. The hardest part was moving the dryer out to where I could get behind it to work on it.
