How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP5973786 / ABQ73503004 Drain Pump

I suspected the 'circulation pump' to be the culprit. I could not find a 'circulation pump' so I deduced via the picture schematics it must be the 'casing assembly, pump' I found on the website. I have heard there have been issues with the 'drain pump' so I also ordered the 'case assembly' on this site which is an odd name for the drain pump. Boxes came with just the part inside no instructions or other info. This was fine as I have been diy repairing things my entire life. I made sure my parts were the right general shape and appearance and I set to work and began disassembly of the dishwasher. This required removing the dishwasher from under the cabinet first. These types of remove and replace repairs are generally simple, just remove things and replace them back when done. One thing you need to do with the Casing assembly is transfer over what appears to be the thermometor unit. Unscrew the center nut which loosens it's hold and pull it out. I used two flathead screwdrivers to get an even pull on the thermometor. I also lubricated the gasket with crisco when I reinstalled it into the new casing assembly as I could tell it would not want to go without some lubrication as it is a tight fit. Screwed in all of the screws, hooked the wiring back up, hooked the plumbing back up and reinstalled it under the cabinet. First tests are successful, dishwasher is again quiet as a whisper. 

Replaced the water supply valve and the drain dump valve. The drain hose had to be replaced also. 

After an online assessment with an LG Tech, I found Appliance Parts Pros. online and I couldn't find the part so I connected with your help desk through the Chat your site offers. Danny helped me find the part, answered a couple questions and I ordered the drain pump. This was an easy fix. A Phillips screwdriver, a 5/8 socket and a pair of pliers was all I needed. Once the dishwasher was removed and I could lay it down on the backside, The old pump was removed and the new pump was installed in less than 10 minutes. The pliers were for those tensioned hose clamps on the drain pump. 

I replaced the pump and backflush valve. I was able to replace both by just removing the kick plate and pulling out the dishwasher a little from under the counter so I could tilt the front end up and access the clamps better. Just two hoses and one electric connector. Be sure to have a large towel to soak up the water from inside the hoses. 

Background: Have had the dishwasher for over 5 years, averaging one wash cycle per day over that time. Symptom: started getting the OE error once in a while about a month ago, but the frequency increased to nearly every wash cycle. Investigation: Considered changing the drain hose first, but that part was nearly as expensive as the drain pump. After reading through reviews and stories, decided it was more likely to be the drain pump, so i ordered that. Fix: Super easy to swap the old pump for the new pump, there are a couple youtube videos that show you exactly what to do. All-in probably took me 30 minutes. Result: We are 6 for 6 successful wash cycles since the replacement, so it appears to have corrected the root cause. Very handy to have the repair stories on this website! 

Replaced the drain pump and flapper valve. Very easy job. Since I was doing this, I replaced the drain hose too. To have the complete drain system replaced. Replacing the drain hose took the most time, but still easy since I had the dishwasher out of the cabinet. Total time, from pulling it out of the cabinet to starting rinse cycle to check for leaks, 2 hours and no leaks, drains like new. 

I suddenly got the EO drain error and had to run the drain cycle multiple times to completely drain the tub. The pump would run about 3 seconds at a time then make a faint high pitch whine and stop. Once the new pump arrived I pulled the dishwasher out and tilted it forward onto a large towel. With the underbelly exposed it was a quick repair requiring just a set of slip joint pliers for the snap rings and a bowl to catch the excess water. I then put it back together and everything has been working great. As a side note I separated the old pump motor from the pump housing and found a few pieces of hair wound around the impeller, so that may have been the cause of the error on the original drain pump. 

Dishwasher had trouble draining. Ordered the drain motor. Once the dishwater was disconnected and moved out, the replacement was easy. Added a few more years of use, and saved money. 

Replaced the float switch, works fine now.
