How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP4511304 / 4933DD3001B Door Hinge Cable Assembly

I disconnected the electric and plumbing lines, pulled the unit out from the cabinet and unscrewed both side panels to determine which spring mechanism had failed. I then ordered the replacement part (not the spring itself but an assembly consisting of two plastic housings and a strong piece of rope connecting them). I actually tried replacing that broken part with a makeshift solution (I tried using a length of metal wire), but it didn't work. Realizing my makeshift approach wouldn't work (dishwasher doors are heavy and exert a fair amount of pressure on those spring assemblies), I ordered the actual part from AppliancePartsPros. The replacement part came 2 days later - after which I replaced it easily, solving the problem. 

Replace spring and rope on door 

This was probably the easiest repair I performed on any appliance in my house. Pulled the dishwasher out, unscrewed the side cover panel (4 screws - 2 in front, 2 in back) and replaced the broken hinge cable assembly. Since I had the dishwasher out already, I checked the other side and discovered that the nylon cord on that side was starting to fray as well so replaced that one too. Depending upon the clearance and dishwasher model you may not need to remove all four screws and may have sufficient room to replace the assembly by removing just the front screws on the side panel (I was able to do that on one side).

Replaced cable 

Replaced the door hinge cable assembly. The rope had frayed and was broken. It was a very simple fix - took about 5 minutes. Saw a video on YouTube which showed me how to do it. 

I was able to determine that the spring was good, but the cable assembly was broken. I ordered the part which came next day and was able to easily replace the cable assembly to fix the problem. 

Having had past success with other appliance repairs, I went to AppliancePartsPros.com to see their "how to" video and order the needed parts. The two door hinge connectors arrived quickly and were easily replaced.
