How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP4511304 / 4933DD3001B Door Hinge Cable Assembly

I purchased a set of new door springs and cable assemblies. The install was fairly easy but required shutting off the power disconnecting the power cables, water feed, and discharge lines so I could pull the dishwasher out enough to get the side panels off. Taking the side panels off was straightforward, just don't forget the two screws behind the door. I only had a cable broke on one side, but you could see some slight fraying on the second side, so it was a good idea to change both. I also changed the springs, but honestly I'm not sure it it was necessary since the old springs looked relatively new. I think the springs may get stretched over time, so I followed the lead of some others that did the same job. Putting the spring and cables on is easy and requires no tools at all. The job was not hard at all but did require some effort and patience. From start to finish including cleanup took around 45 minutes. 

Pulled the dishwasher out - took off the side panels found the problem was a broken nylon cable. Went to this site using the Model #. Very quickly found the parts. Ordered two cable assemblies off the diagrams. Parts were delivered in two days Pulled out the dishwasher again, removed the two side panels and installed the new cable connectors to the springs. About six screws in all. It took more time toe get the dishwasher out and back in than to make the repairs Piece of cake repair. 

Replaced both (right and left) springs and ropes (hinge cable assemblies). This required the water supply and drain hose to be disconnected. It was not necessary to disconnect the power supply - there was sufficient wire to pull the machine out without disconnecting. Remove the side panels and old parts. Install new parts. Button up and slide machine back in place. Reconnect water and drain hose. 

Ordered both springs and cables, very inexpensive. Disconnected water, electric, and drain. Removed front lower kick plate and anti fall down screws, pulled unit out and removed side panels. Replaced both door springs and cables (very easy job). Reinstalled in reverse order, any one could handle this job! 

I did not know which part broke, but it was very obvious once I moved the Dishwasher out of the cabinet. The "cable" is nylon cord, so I imagine this would be sacrificial part on every machine. 

I went to AppliancePartsPros.com and looked at the parts breakdown for the door. I had assumed a broken spring or cable so I found and ordered them. Having never changed them on an LG, I watched the video. I now new what to do. The hardest part of the whole job was pulling out the dishwasher to get at the springs and cables. There was enough slack in the hoses and wire to get it out without disconnecting them. Start to finish took less than thirty minutes. 

I ordered both springs and cables then pulled the dishwasher out and removed the side panels. I discovered that the cables were broken on both sides and the springs appeared fine. Since I had them, I replaced both the springs and the cables and the door works just great now. 

It was really an easy repair once you get the dishwasher disconnected from drain/water supply/electrical and the out of cabinet. This part took 30-45 minutes due to tight fit and difficulty accessing water supply. Once dishwasher out of cabinet, removal of 5 screws per side, lifted off side panels, and access was simple. Took about 30 seconds to replace Hinge Cable. I ordered two and once the broken side finished, replace other side as well. It was showing significant wear and probably would have broken in 6 months or so. Once finished, replacing dishewaher and reconnecting took about 30 minutes. When reinstalled, took door apart to replace broken Deco Handle. Again simple just keep track of screws. There are three different sizes . Biggest problem is the extremely cheap parts LG puts into their $1000 dishwasher.

I looked up my unit and reviewed the schematic drawing online at Appliance Parts Pro. Once receiving the parts, I Pulled out the dishwasher and removed side panels - didn't even have to disconnect anything. Removed broken parts and replaced them with the new - took about 10-15 minutes start to finish. Easy cheesy! Owning LG appliances I'm thankful to have found a resource like Appliance Parts Pro! I plan to use them for all my other LG repairs because they make it so easy to find parts.
