How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP4998848 / EBF49827801 Washer Door Lock Switch

The door locked fine but the sensor told the machine that it was not locked. Therefore the machine would not start. The fix was simple. You removed the top of the washing machine unplug the old latch plug in the new latch and put everything back together. The hardest part was unplugging the latch from the wire harness. I used a screwdriver to push it away while pushing in the lever and that worked. 

Replaced the washer door lock switch by following a YouTube tutorial which only involved a screwdriver 

Ordered the part from AppliancePros.com (I've ordered from them before) Installed the part in less than 20 min. Washer working fine now. 

Replaced door latch by removing the door seal. 

Replaced with new door lock switch and replaced the outer door gasket clamp 

Removed old door lock switch and installed new one. 

Moved the front gasket out of my way by removing the retaining ring. To remove the retaining ring, you just pry out on the spring with a flathead screwdriver, and it comes off very easily and then you push the gasket out of your way. Remove the 2 screws holding the door latch in place and pull it out enough to release the wiring harness. Install the new door latch by reversing the process. I watched the do-it-yourself video and it was very easy!

Watched the video on You Tube, and followed the example. There were two options to get to the door switch. The first option was to take the top lid off to get to the switch. The second was to go through the front door and take the rubber gasket off to get to the switch. I chose to go through the door, because I have a stackable washer and dryer. It took 2 days to get the parts. I was able to put the switch in as soon as I received the part. I’ve never done it before, and it only took me a half an hour to install the switch. That’s the time it took to get the few tools I needed to finishing the job. My wife had a repair man come to fix it. The company charged me $150 just to come and diagnose the problem. Then he told her it was the door switch, which I already knew. Then wanted to charge us. $150 for the part, plus labor. And wouldn’t guarantee that it would fix the problem. I ordered the part myself and installed it. It only cost me $56 for the part, my time to watch the install video and replace the part,(1/2 an hr).
