Originally, the machine continued to fill until the door latch couldn't hold the force of water and failed. I read a blog that was supported by AAP.com which stated that it was most likely faulty water inlet valves. I tested the valves by unplugging machine and the water continued to fill, confirming it was a faulty valve. I replaced both valves, part #'s listed here:
Water Inlet Valve Assembly
Part Number:5220FR2008F
Water Inlet Valve Assembly
Part Number:5220FR2006H
This solved the problem of overfilling but the machine continued to have "control module like" symptoms such as adding time to the cycle, not advancing in the cycle and continually showing "open door" and "unlocked" messages when door was secured and locked. Unable to obtain a new control board due to its discontinuance, I started with the least expensive option, that being the following door lock switch:
Washer Door Lock Switch EBF49827801 / AP4998848
After watching APP's video, I was able to quickly replace the switch from the front seal and have had no problems of any kind since.
This was my 4th repair to this machine; tub bearings, heater coil replacement, water inlet valves and door lock switch. All parts have come from APP and all together APP.com has saved me the cost of a new washer and dryer combined! A single mother could do these last two repairs with two screw drivers and a pair of pliers.
