How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP4998848 / EBF49827801 Washer Door Lock Switch

After reading reviews on AppliancePartsPros.com, I decided before calling out a repair person I would try the washer door lock switch as this seemed to be a consistent fix for the same issue I was experiencing. After receiving the part & watching a YouTube video on how to replace the part I started the job. All in all it was a very easy fix, the only issue I had was getting the ring back around the rubber molding as the spring really did not want to stretch. After a bit of a struggle & thinking I was going to need to recruit some man strength I was able to get it back on. If not for that part the whole job would have taken under ten minutes but with that minor struggle it was closer to a half hour. All in all was a pretty easy repair and the best part, problem fixed! I have done several loads of laundry since with no error codes. Very happy with the results! 

Replace door switch. 

Removed the tub seal, removed old switch and replaced with new switch; re-installed tub seal. 

I unscrewed the front panel which was holding the locking mechanism for the washer . Then proceeded to remove the rubber drum gasket pushing it into the washer exposing the lock assembly for the inside. Unhooked the wire assembly then attached the new locking mechanism. Aligned with the hole from the washer slot and screwed back into place reposition the rubber gasket from the drum back on and the ring that holds into place and my job was done. 

I followed the videos, like always, and it was an easy fix. These guys talked me through tearing the washer apart to replace the drum bearings so this was a snap in comparison. The parts fit, the videos are on point, and the quality is excellent. Pay yourself to do it, and spend the money you save buying something nice for yourself. FYI, I always quote high for the accountant (wife) in the house because she doesn't need to know about my toys. 

Watched the video, gathered tools and it was as simple as it looked. Works great. 

Have had several occasions where the lock would not engage. This last time I removed the old one and lubricated it and reinstalled as a temp fix while I waited for the new switch--Switch arrived, but Lock is working and since the fix is fast, I decided I'd wait for the old one to give me problems again before I replace it. Part on hand! 

Watched a quick and easy to understand video on how to loosen the rubber ring around the opening of the door, unscrew the old switch, and unplug from the harness inside the frame. Just plug in the new switch, add the screws for support, and refasten the rubber ring. Plugged it back in and the door unlocked as it was supposed to. 

Part came in 1-week. The video on web site made it clear how to change it, Change out went well about 35 minutes, the washer has been working nonstop for a week, 

I researched the problem and ordered the door lock switch assembly . I watched the video on how to replace it. It was fairly easy to do except for putting the ring back on the gasket, it took two people to put it back on. I am very happy with the outcome washer is working great and saved money on a repair man.
