How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP4442090 / 6600JB1010A Refrigerator Door Switch

I did some research online a saw this was a common problem. The part was cheap enough and looked easy to get at and fix myself. The service fee from Sears would have been $80. I ordered the part by fridge model number. I slid a hard plastic putty knife under the switch and popped it out. I used plyers to remove the switch from the wire casing. I had to bend the plastic tabs on the old piece a little to unattached it. Once off the new piece snapped right in. Works perfect. Part and shipping was under $10. My husband was so proud! 

To remove the switch lift the right end away from cabinet with a flat head screwdriver then grip it with a pair of needle nose pliers. While holding it with needle nose pliers push the clamp to the left with a flat head screwdriver and pull the switch out with the needle nose pliers. Move the 2 small locking tabs away from the switch to remove the connector. Align and plug connector into new switch, press it into the rectangular opening with the large plastic clip facing the door of the fridge until it snaps flush with the refridgerator wall. Takes approx. 15 minutes. 

I replaced the light switch. I did have a little problem though. Before a ordered the first switch, I watched the video that you provided on your web site. When tried to remove the old switch, it showed the little lever on top of the switch that holds it in. I tried to pry the top of the switch, and broke part o the switch plate off. That was when I really looked at the switch I received, and found that it was not the same as the one that I was trying to remove (size wise). That was when I sent that one back and re-ordered another switch. When I received the new switch, I could see that the little lever was on the end of mine. 60 seconds later, I had a switch installed that worked. Other than that, it was a piece of cake. Thanks 

The alarm beeped for two days before I figured out that the light switch in the freezer was the problem. The light bulb- I thought - had burned out a long time ago, but it was actually frozen to where the light just would not come on. Apparently the freezer door had been left open long enough to thaw out the switch and now the light was working. Problem was that now it wasn't turning off even when the door closed. This was telling the unit that the door was open, hence the continuous beeping for two days, and it stops running if any of the doors are open. Ordered the new switch, watched the video several times at repair clinic.com as they were demonstrating my exact model, and was able to change out the switch and unit working perfectly. I used a flat spackle/putty knife to push in from the front of the switch to move the locking tab back in order to pull down the switch, which I held with a pair of needle nose pliers in order to get a good grip. I also ordered new gaskets/seals for both french doors as they were torn at both the top and bottom and I figured that would be the next problem. Also watched the video from repair clinic (same model) and easily replaced both. Thank you appliance parts pros.com! 

Door light switch failed to work, sometimes. Repair was quick and fairly easy. It was obvious looking at new switch what had to happen in order to remove old one, but still kind of a pain since switch design clearly intended for simplicity on the assembly line vs. ease of repair in the future. Pried out with putty knife and screwdriver, needle nose pliers for encouragement as necessary. Don't be shy about forcing old one out. Broke edges off one side of mine for better screwdriver access to clip you need to press in. New one plugged right in and snapped in place. Glad I did it. Good price and part arrived quickly via Fedex. 

My daughter was visiting from Ohio and suggested that I "google" the problem on line. She copied the Make, and Part Number from the info on the door of the refrigerator. Google led us to Appliance Parts Pros. which showed us the part itself was only a plug, a nifty video showed a fellow instructing us exactly what to do, the part that we needed, a picture of it, and how to order it. The cost of the part was $5.49 and with the shipping the total price was $14.50. I ordered it on Dec. 26th. It arrived in my mailbox on Dec. 28th. She followed the simple instructions using a flat-head screwdriver, and inserted the part, closed the door and "voila", it has been working ever since....it is now Jan. 9th. Her Christmas visit and this great website saved me at least $60.00. I am very impressed by this website and feel that it is a gift to us who are not "techies". Thank you very much. 

New switch arrived quickly. Took longer to watch video than to actually replace switch. Turned off power, easily pried old switch out, removed wiring harness and reversed process with new switch. Five minutes tops to do the whole thing. Recommend this to any level of DIY person. 

I popped it out with a screwdriver the way it is designed to come out. Thanks to you tube I was able to look up the repair before attempting it. Unfortunately, I have had to replace this same part three times now. This time I took the switch apart after removing it and found that it has a serious design flaw. It would appear the switch has a very small contact point that arc's every time you open and close your fridge. The arcing causes carbon to build up which in turn causes the switch to work intermittently and then fail. Great service and experience with AppliancePartsPro.com. Parts showed up on time. Not so happy that my over priced Kenmore Fridge needs the same part every other year. 

Installed new water inlet valve and within a few hours the machine was cranking out cubes again. The wire harness to the valve was fragile and I cracked it getting it off, but the individual wires attached just fine to the new valve. The water line on my fridge has a built in reduction so you don't cut the tube for a new end...you use the end as it is from the last valve and hope for the best. It held fine and didn't leak. 

GE and another web parts supplier could not provide me with the proper switch for my model. Haier Company purchased the GE Appliance division. I believe they also manufacture LG appliances. While looking on your site, I stumbled upon a picture of a switch that looked exactly like the one in my refrigerator. I took a chance and ordered one, even though it said it was for an LG refrigerator. As it turned out, it was exactly like my old switch by the same manufacturer and specifications. It plugged right in and fit into the hole in the refrigerator wall perfectly! Thank goodness for that picture!
