How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP5577073 / DA66-00558B Refrigerator Upper Hinge Cam Riser

I removed the freezer door and replaced the riser. Door removal and replacement was fairly simple and straightforward. The video on the AppliancePartsPros.com site was helpful. 

Once again, AppliancePartsPros.com for the win! When our freezer door suddenly stopped deciding to stay closed (of course our freezer was full of expensive food at the time) I found broken plastic near the lower hinge. I came to AppliancePartsPros.com, entered the fridge model number and, boom, there were the likely culprits in the list of most frequently ordered parts. Once I got over the outrage (at Samsung) that such a critical function was maintained by two brittle pieces of plastic, I ordered both the lower hinge door assembly and the upper hinge cam riser with next day delivery. That was a good thing, because both halves of the plastic cam were shattered. The how-to repair videos were spot on and the repair job went flawlessly. Where I live, there is no way I could've found someone to handle this repair, let alone get it done the next day. AppliancePartsPros.com saved our bacon, literally. 

Replaced the "plastic" Upper Hinge Cam Riser. Followed the video which was super helpful! 

I looked up AppliancePartsPros.com and looked up 'Door stop', 'Upper Hinge Cam Riser', and 'Lower Door Hinge assembly'. It had a video on how to replace those parts which made it clear and easy. 

I used the AppliancePartsPros website to identify and order the part. The part arrived on time as promised. I used the video instructions which worked very well. 

After reviewing the Video provided, I replaced the defective parts. 

Ordered parts from Appliance Parts Pros. 

Replaced the entire lower hinge assembly. Unfortunately the cam alone is only available for the top half so you need to replace the entire hinge. Fairly simple repair, I think it took a lot more time to empty the refrigerator than to fix it. It is recommended to have a helper to fish the hose back in during reassembly. 

Replaced cam and holder. Hinge and stopper. 

Replaced both hinge assembly and cam riser. Very simple task. Removed power and shutoff house water. Removed ice containers and items stored inside door containers. Disconnected water lines at bottom of the door, then remove top hinge cover, disconnected three electrical connectors, one ground wire and three bolts holding upper hinge door bracket. Lift the door off the lower hinge bracket, placing the door on its side to gain access to upper hinge cam riser, removing screw along with old riser, securing new riser into place. Reinstalled door in reverse order of removal. Easier if you have someone feeding water hoses at bottom hinge while another holds the door, slowly lowering door onto the lower hinge. The start to finish was half an hour.
