How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP4318629 / DA97-05422A Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly

After investigating the problem on the internet it appeared that the ice maker would probably need to be replaced. I went on line to find a source for the new part and found a good price at APP.com. I ordered the new icemaker and it arrived in 3 days. The install took me about 15 minutes and soon the refrigerator was making ice like it did when it was new. Thankful to AppliancePartsPros.com for their quick response to my order. 

I simply changed to broken part. It was easy. 

I ordered a new ice maker. There was a video on YouTube that showed how to replace it. It took about ten minutes and saved me a lot of money. It was very simple to do. 

Replaced the ice maker assembly. If I recall correctly, AppliancePartPros had a nice, short video with instructions on how to remove and replace the assembly. It's very simple, but it always nice to see how it's done before you get started to avoid any surprises. 

Since I didn't want to wait, I just purchased and installed the new ice maker assembly. The assembly was shipped and in my hands in only three days. Replacing the assembly is simple and mine was making cubes after only a few hours. You only remove one screw, a small panel held by it, and disconnect the ice maker plug - after removing the fridge power cord from the wall. I completed the operation in under five minutes. I have since purchased a fuse for the old ice maker assembly and now have it back in operation for a spare replacement if this fuse ever blows in the new ice maker assembly. My Samsung RF267ABWP/XAA French door fridge still looks and works like new despite it being 14 years ago that I purchased it. The only problem left is some of the front control panel LEDs went dim a month or so back. If I decide to pull the control panel out, I may just install some new LEDs instead of replacing the still working control panel. This sure beats spending over $3000 for a new Samsung fridge that compares to mine. 

Watched youtube video that showed how to fix the ice maker. Testimonials on website were consistent with youtube fix. Installation of new part took 5 minutes. This is the second time this part has been replaced. The 1st repair was done by a service tech and the bill was over $300. 

Ordered the new ice maker, the shipping was fast. When it arrived, the removal of the old one and installation of the new took approximately 10 minutes. One phillips screw and one plug..... Very Easy! 

With prior experience in dealing with appliance repairmen we knew the cost to fix our frig would be 200.00 or more. I decided to see how much a new unit was. Through Appliance Repair Parts I was able to buy a new factory ice maker. The cost was 118.00. I was able to take the old one out in about 15 minutes and re install the new one in about ten minutes. 

We watched the videos on u tube of ice maker installation. When we installed it, we didn't get it seated in the top slots, seemed like the cord bundle was too short. During the night the ice maker fell down in the bin but it still kept filling up with water so in the morning we had a frozen stuck mess. Could. It get the ice maker out because of the ice, so we used a hairdryer to thaw everything out, reinstalled the Ice maker making sure it clicked into place. Works great now. 

I have a Samsung frig, model # RFG297AARS. The ice maker stopped working but I was still getting water through the door dispenser. I did a lot a website searching and got zero help from Samsung. When I would talk to their tech support people they would always say to send them a private message with your model number. I did that and their response was to get an appliance repair person to check it out further. I first changed the water valve which sends water to the ice maker and the water dispenser. No luck so I decided to spend the money and just replace the ice maker itself. BINGO, the ice maker works perfectly. My website searching actually saved me $150-200 dollars in repair/labor charges. I'm glad I went to AppliancePartsPros.com to buy my original Samsung ice maker and not an aftermarket one that would have been a little cheaper. I checked local appliance repair shops and their price for the same Samsung ice maker was $40 dollars more than what I paid at AppliancePartsPros.com.
