The Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly is an OEM part for Samsung refrigerators. This assembly is responsible for producing ice automatically in the freezer compartment. It includes the ice mold, water inlet valve, and other components necessary for creating and dispensing ice cubes.

Causes of a bad ice maker assembly can include wear and tear on mechanical components, mineral buildup that clogs water lines or the inlet valve, or electrical failures in the control mechanism. Physical damage to the ice mold or housing can also compromise functionality.

Symptoms of a bad ice maker assembly include:

  • Failure to produce ice
  • Leaking water in or around the ice maker
  • Misshapen or incomplete ice cubes
  • Unusual noises during operation

This OEM Samsung replacement is also compatible with select Kenmore refrigerators.

Questions & Answers

For Samsung Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly (Part Number: OEM12955896)

1 Answer

Juliet, This could be an issue with the main control board. The icemaker has a heater on it that heats the ice temporarily and allows it to eject. If the heater is not coming on then this would cause the ice to stay in and it will continue to try to push it out. You will want to try checking on the main control board to make sure that there is 120 vac coming from the control board to the heater on the icemaker. If there is not then the main control board would need to be replaced.

Brian, it would be recommended that the freezer temperature is verified using a thermometer. If the freezer temperature is 0°F, the next step would be identifying if the ice maker fan DA31-00146B is operating properly. If the fan does not push air through properly, it can slow ice production.

Matt, the ice maker will start making ice once it has reached 0°F and performs an empty harvest. Pressing the reset button would help skip it having to reach the initial temperature as it will perform the empty harvest immediately, allowing the filled water to start freezing.

Ken, You will want to test at the main control board connector J23 to the CN76 Pin 2 for 7 to 12 VDC. This would be the ice fan circuit and if the voltages are correct then the fan is faulty and will need to replace the ice fan.

Dale for Model Number samsung RF267ABRS

The ice maker had to be replaced shortly after purchase of this fridge several years ago and the replacement has all along been an annoyance. It sporadically, whenever it feels like it, crushes cubes, it clogs up in the chute and then releases an avalanche of ice, etc. I am told Samsung has issued a new style upgrade ice maker. True? Do you sell this upgraded new model? Do you have feedback indicating whether or not it represents an improvement over the old model? Many thanks, Dale

1 Answer

Dale, Yes, the icemaker has been reworked from the original. The part we sell is the most recent revision of the ice maker. Unfortunately, the issues you are experiencing have nothing to do with the actual ice maker. The crush or cube all happens in the ice bucket which is part number DA97-11117A. I would also make sure the ice chute door is sealing well not letting in moist air and making all the ice cubes stick together.
