How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008726 / WP358237 Agitator Bolt

After watching all your videos pertaining to agitator parts replacement, I determined the easiest and best solution was to replace the entire assembly. One bolt and less than 5 minutes later I was back to washing clothes. 

Replacing the clutch assembly made it all new again! It took longer than expected because the agitator column bolt had rusted and I had to use a bolt extractor to remove it, then had to clean the agitator completely once disassembled. WARNING! Check this part before ordering, so you can get a shiny new one if yours is also rusted. The repair video had one important DEFICIENCY: it shows the disassembly of the agitator but not reassembly. I got everything back together and realized I forgot a plastic part and clip - easy to fix. I ordered a motor coupling but the original was intact so I did not replace it. The extra time was mostly breaking the rusted bolt free and cleaning all the agitator parts. 

Simple by using 7/16 socket with long extension to remove the bolt and pull the whole agitator out and clean them. Put back in together with new parts. It works fine now.

THERE WERE SOME QUESTIONS I NEEDED answering AND SHE HAD ANOTHER LADY ON THE PHONE HELPED ME ORDER ALL THE CORRECT PARTS. NEXT DAY IT WAS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE OLD BOLT WAS RUSTED. CLEANED UP THE BEST I COULD, HAD TO GO ONE SIZE DOWN SOCKET TAPPED ON THE EXTENSION. SAID A PRAYER. BOLT CAME RIGHT OUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REPLACED ALL THE PARTS. TEST THE WASHER WORKED PERFECT ADDED AFFRESH TO THE WATER AND COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW CLEAN THE DRUM WAS. THANK YOU FOR PROVIDING A GREAT PRODUCT AND SERVICE. HARD TIMES ARE HERE AND THIS SAVED ME MONEY 

I first contemplated replacing my washer since it's over 10yrs old. Checked YouTube and found Appliance Parts Pros videos and saw I could do this simple repair. I originally propped up my washer and used my iPhone to video the leak. Saw it was the hose linking the water inlet valve to the tub. Ordered my parts from APP and disassembled my washer within 10 min. Cleaned the tub and replaced the parts. I also repaired the agitator parts, which I didn't realize they were bad until I watch a few more APP videos. Washer back in full service and washing like new. I have an older direct drive Maytag, which is considered easier to repair. 

Ordered part which arrived in record time of just 2 days (I was really looking forward to a week without having to do laundry while waiting for parts)?? But luckily I was headed out for a mini vacation for Labor Day so when I got home I opened the package, watched one video from your website and quickly made the repair. Works perfectly again and hopefully will last me another 15 years with only minor issues. When they come, I'll be right back on Appliance Parts Pros! Thanks y'all. 

We (my wife and I) didn't realize that the washer was not agitating because we would load the washer, close the lid and walk away. So the washer sounded like it was working fine, going through all the cycles and all, but then noticed the laundry was smelling funky 'cause it was not agitating. I viewed a video on You Tube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KNJwyWZqFc ) to see how to find the problem and fix it. Ordered the parts needed to do the job. Order arrived sooner then expected as I was gonna take care of this when I returned from a golf trip and my wife was not happy! I was able to get the washer up and running by replacing the dogs, cam and bolt within 10 minutes of receiving my order. My wife did not have to drive to the laundromat (while I was golfing) and the washer works like new now. Very easy job and the price was right! 

Watched the video to see what parts might be needed and it looked like a very easy repair by replacing the "dogs". I thought I would be able to handle it by myself, but I found I did not have the strength to loosen the bolt that had been there for maybe 9-10 years. So, my husband had to step in and take over the project. Was able to get the cap off and loosen the bolt. Trying to separate the upper agitator from the lower agitator was a real chore. It appears some of the plastic pieces had gotten hot and melted slightly. It took him a little while to break loose some of the plastic to separate the two. After that,putting in the new parts was quite easy and putting it back together was quite easy. We thought maybe we would have to purchase the lower agitator too, but it seems to be working fine. 

I ordered all parts of the agitator top, matchup was exactly the same and replaced them quickly. 

Removed agitator with a 3/8 12mm deep socket wrench. I had to use pb blaster on the very rusted bolt (works like a dream.) Took out the agitator. In order to get to the old cam, I had to remove the top piece of my agitator. Well, after realizing by reading another review, that there are 4 tabs which you could see that are located around the cam by looking directly into the agitator which appeared to have melted down. I took a small screwdriver and tapped around each tab and the top part of the agitator finally separated. Once this was achieved it was easy breezy by following the video on your website. If it weren't for the tab issue the whole job would've only taken 20 minutes!!
