Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Agitator Bolt (Part Number: OEM18026187)

Mark for Model Number 81362130

I have a Kenmore 60 Series top loading washer..I noticed the clothes are not getting cleaned. After the rinse cycle soap remains some soap remains on the clothes. (I use liquid soap). I noticed the agitator is only moving a little bit (about an inch back and forth)during the wash and spin cycle. I watched your video suggesting the agitator bolt might need replacement. How do I know if the agitator bolt is the problem? If I remove the bolt is there something I can inspect to confirm the bolt needs replacement ?

1 Answer

Mark, if the full model number could be provided in a new question, this will allow the most accurate information to be presented. Generally speaking, the agitator would need to be checked for damaged gear teeth and the washer would need to be checked to make sure it is spinning properly during a spin cycle.

Someone (years ago apparently) placed the auger on top of the piece where the dog agits are. Nothing is holding the auger in place. Weird thing is, the washer was washing fine up until yesterday. I need to remove the agitator bolt so that I can put everything back in the right order, but the bolt is very rusty and won't budge (I have the proper tools). And advice?? I managed to replace the dog agits while the piece was in place, it wasn't easy but doable. However, the dog agits have nothing to grip because the teeth on the auger are above the dogs.

Ever-Grace. To get the bolt out, use a long extension with a bit to connect to an impact. Spray with penetrating oil and this should help to get the bolt out.

Hi, I have a top load Admiral washer and I'm replacing the agitator. The bolt that holds the agitator in place won't budge. I have been using an impact wrench and doused it with WD-40. The shaft spins with the agitator bolt weather I hold the agitator in place or keep the washtub from moving. I am going to try some PB blaster and hope for the best. If that doesn't work, what else can I try? Is it possible to hold the transmission shaft in place from underneath in order to remove the agitator bolt from above? Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thx!

1 Answer

Nelson, The only way to do this from the bottom and keep the shaft from turning would be to wedge the pulley at the bottom of the unit.

Van, This just means the unit is in spin mode. Use the tub to hold everything still while you loosen the bolt.

Christian for Model Number LSQ9264HQ0

Hello. I recently ordered a new agitator dog kit from you and the installation video was very helpful. I reinstalled everything and have done two washes and all worked fine. Today, I decided to check on the bolt to make sure it had not come loose. It was OK but I was able to tighten it a little more, probably because I was afraid to tighten it too hard the first time. Now I am concerned that I may have overtightened it. Should I untighten it a fraction of a turn or simply leave it alone. I did not hear anything cracking or breaking when I was tightening it a notch more. I suppose that rubber gasket was simply compressing? Thank you.

1 Answer

Christian, based on the information provided, the most likely scenario is that the bolt had not seated fully and the gasket had fully compressed and seated when the bolt was tightened again.

Patrick, Yes, with the shaft turning you will want to use some PB Blaster on it and impact gun should work for getting the bolt out.
