How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014711 / WPW10006355 Washer Shift Actuator

Replace shift actuator. OK now. 

Replace a Shift Actuator #WPW10006355. I loved the Appliance Compatibility Tool and the Repair Video all in one place. 

Youtube!!! Before you call a technician, seriously watch youtube. I know nothing about electric or machines at all ! You will see from my description. Having found the correct way to run the error code cycle, I was able to determine the issue. "Shift Actuator" (What the hell is a shift actuator) From there it was AppliancePartsPros.com. I found it straight away. Honestly, I ordered the part on Tuesday afternoon, after comparing pricing online, and with my local supply store, and it was at my door before lunch on Wednesday. I paid no extra shipping, regular AppliancePartsPros shipping. Changing the actuator was very easy. Disconnect the water and waste . Unplug the machine and tape the lid shut. Turn on its side and remove the bottom cover. Mine was like a spongy thing. Take the motor/pump cover off.(I have no idea what it is) Mine is white and looks like a bicycle chain cover.(2 screws) Disconnect the actuator from the wire plug thing, and remove 2 more screws.1 in the middle and one on the side. Pul it out. Put the new one in and Bingo, you have more Browny points with your wife than you have ever had before. And you fixed something! 

I watched a YouTube video produced by AppliancePartsPros prior to ordering the part and saw how easy replacement would be. As mentioned in the video, it is easily accessed when you lay the washer down. Remove the two screws holding the cover, remove the two screws holding the actuator, unplug the wires and removal is complete. Plug in and place the actuator properly, screw the two screws in and replace the cover. This was completed in less than 30 minutes.

I ordered the shift actuator,and a new tub seal also a belt. I took the washer all apart and cleaned it real good, replaced those 3 parts. Then I re-calibrated the washer, had to do this twice. Then did a wash on a few different load cycles. The washer works like new again. Saved $600.00 from buying a new washer. Spent less than $150.00 to fix it myself. So happy everyone at appliancepartspros.com. was awesome!!! Will be buying all my appliance parts there from now on. 

Replaced Shift Actuator. Very easy job after putting appliance on dolly. 

Scanned the Appliance Parts Pros website, found where similar user had same problems with their Maytag, Whirlpool, Kenmore,etc unit. Watched the install video and ordered the part. Quick delivery had my washer back online working normally in a few days. 

Had notice my washer cutting on and a loud click in the middle of the night when the lid was closed but not actually washing any clothes, it had become slow to change between cycles also. Noticed the surge protector was blown out and melted around the positive side. Put a new surge protector on it, and ran the combination dial error code light diagnosis test and kept getting all lights flashing for a F15 code on the rinse settings and clear on the others. Went looking online and found this site, thank goodness, for I can afford a new control panel if need be, saved from outside labor cost, and was able to deduct from the various Q&A's section what was wrong and how to install the part via the instructional video. I believe I can even be able to rebuild the entire thing, if need be, from the info I learned from this site as well. But the shift actuator seems to have solved the problem.I could have saved $10 on Ebay, but didn't want to chance getting a used part. Looks like that $8 surge protector saved me about $600 in repairs. I think it happened during that bad lightning storm we had a month ago, and probably muddled up the sensing unit then. If you don't have a surge protector on your appliances, go buy one now..If you can put a new battery in your car, then you can work on this machine yourself w/ this site
