How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014711 / WPW10006355 Shift Actuator

Ordered actuator from AP and had it over-nighted. It took about a half-hour to access the underside of the machine, remove the old part and install the new one. Roughly 24 hours after finding the machine inoperable the problem was fixed and the washer was back in service. Thanks for your quick response and shipment of the needed part. Doug Venator 

I ordered the shift actuator after reading others stories on here. My washer had started being crazy and wouldn't go into spin cycle and sometimes wouldn't even start the wash cycle. The lid lock light would flash and it would do nothing. The shift actuator was the problem. It was very easy to change, just turn the washer on its back and remove 2 nuts and then 2 screws, unplug the old one and replace with the new one. It works as it should now! 

Replaced the shift actuator! Was actually very simple repair! Found socks and wash cloths that fell around drum! Mystery sock disappearance solved! 

Have had this experience before. Ordered the same parts as last time plus a few more related components. Performed the repair in under an hour. All is good. 

Figured out how to diagnose it and found the error codes, all online! learned how disconnect everthing and laid the washer down on its back, saw the 2 malfunctioning pieces, The Drive motor and the shift actuator, removed them and looked up model numbers, found the parts I need here on appliance parts pros and was able to order them and have them delivered in 2 days. Super awesome as it took me maybe 5 minutes attaching everything back to where it went. I ran diagnostics again to see if there was anything and cleared the codes and ran it again. I found no error codes and washed a bunch of towels to test run, I couldn't be happier my washer is up and running. 

The original problem was that the spin cycle would not run and I noticed that the lid lock light was off, so I replaced the lid lock switch. However, this did not fix the problem and eventually none of the cycles would start, also the lid lock switch would lock and unlock. I found a couple of youtube videos describing the issue, and illustrating how to read the error codes and run the automatic diagnostic tests. I had the same error code F7E1-Basket Speed Censor Fault as described in the videos. The machine would not start any cycle because it could not determine the basket speed. The solution was to replace the shift actuator since that also determines the basket speed. Difficult problem fixed, HOORAY!!! 

Installed new Shift Actuator and drive belt as shown in the repair video, andmachine worked fine. 

Ran diagnostic test to confirm there was a Shift Actuator problem. Watched the helpful AppliancePartsPros.com repair video and then replaced the Shift Actuator. Washer now runs perfectly. We installed a new suspension kit to cure the vibration and a new shift actuator with a new cam kit to eliminate the grinding between cycle changes. 

Researched the machine and problem on the web, identified likely problem parts and verified using the machine's on-board diagnostics system. Ordered the parts and made the repair, relatively easy job, saved a ton of money.
