How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008904 / WP3951632 Lower Agitator

The diagnosis was the longest part of the repair, but I found out that the splines on the inside of the agitator had stripped out, so the matching splines on the drive shaft of the washer were not spinning the agitator as they should. I bought just the bottom part of the agitator from this site, and it matched perfectly with the old top part and the drive shaft of the washer. The actual repair just took 5 minutes. 

Replaced with new lower agitator. VERY fast delivery and easy fix! 

Removed all upper parts and inspected upper agitator pawls , pulled lower agitator straight up & out , it was obvious what the problem was . before installing new agitator i cleaned steel shaft splines with a pick and wire brush to ease installation of new part . part arrived super fast and was back together in 10 minutes . thank you for taking my order , a very kind and knowledgeable staff , videos were very helpful 

Three of the 4 tabs on the top of the agitator were snapped off. The cam assembly was also missing. I purchased all of those parts and replaced them easily. 

I removed it and replaced it with this product. I needed a 7/16" socket with extensions to loosen the center screw under the fabric softener holder, then removed the cap. I lifted the entire upper and lower center agitator stem to then be able to separate the top from the bottom where I replaced my worn/damaged lower half with this new product. I was slightly concerned it may not fit because the fit was very snug, but I managed to get it all put back together, run the machine and this product worked perfectly for my repair.

After reviewing some YouTube videos I was clear that my issue was most likely the agitator. I ordered a new one and BINGO!!! Great customer service from these guys and the part came next day which helped a bunch. 

Plastic agitator connection to washers metal drive gear had worn down, likely due to Whirlpool washer's design that has a tendancy to snag all strings and small items. Thanks to APP, had it up and running again in a few days, the repair itself taking about 20mins. The repair also requires a couple of tools/extensions you may or may not have, I would advise watching the full repair video. Replaced lower agitator (WP3951632) and washplate bolt (W10772621) and so far its running great. 

I replaced the agitator with a new one from AppliancePartsPros.com. The repair took maybe five minutes. Simply pull the softener dispenser off, pull the seal (I used needle nose pliers), Then use a socket and long extension to remove the bolt that attaches the agitator to the shaft. Install the new agitator, tighten the bolt, replace the seal (use liquid dish soap to lube the o-ring first), and replace the softener dispenser. The drive shaft connects to the agitator with splines. The shaft is metal, the agitator splines are plastic, so the splines on the agitator just wear out. Wish they put a brass insert in the agitator for the splines. 

Replaced the lower agitator also installed new upper agitator cams and bolt. The washer works like a new one. Ordered the parts Monday----------- the next day they were here before noon. Thanks for the quick service.
