I found one of the appliance parts pros videos on youtube that described how to replace the belt on my washing machine. It was a little tricky getting the motor out - I had to tilt it and wrangle it to get it out, but it came okay eventually. The belt was indeed cracked, not shredded, but I also discovered that the idler pulley wheel was chipped. I tried to order the parts from our local home-town appliance place, since I knew the owner, but they told me the parts were out of date and they'd quit making them. I looked at the linked url from the video I'd watched, and looked up the parts on appliance pros piece of cake, and not too expensive. I called back the shop and asked what gives. They said they only worked with original factory parts, and the online ones were generic. So, I ordered them on Friday morning, they came Tuesday morning. Perfect fits, fixed the problem, my wife thinks (correctly) that I am Mr Fixit.
