How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013411 / WP8572205 Control Panel Overlay (Black)

I ordered a new keypad from AppliancePartsPros.com and installed it. It was pretty easy, just unscrew the front panel, unplug the old keypad, plug in the new one, put everything back into place and replace the screws. Much cheaper than having to buy a new dishwasher, and I made the repair myself! Delivery of the product was fast and I had the dishwasher up and running in 15 minutes! 

I unscrewed the panel on the inside then disconnected the electronics ribbon. Performed a test with my multimeter based the schematics on what each button should be send a signal to the corresponding ribbon wire. Found that the old panel was not working properly. Service technician was going to charge $93 for the part and $145 for the labor. I ordered through AppliancePartsPROS.com and got the part in 2 days ( I ordered after 3p so lost that and the next day) Part came as described and works wonderfully. I am very happy. Also extended warranty was $194 and Insurance Repai + 1 year warranty was $304. I saved a ton. Thank you very much AppliancePartsPROS.com 

Ordered a new control panel and installed it in about 10 minutes, dishwasher works again. 

I ordered this part because the heavy door fell while I was trouble shooting the problems. It broke the cable where it enters the touch panel. Got this part super fast, about 2 days. Very impressed with the shipping time. Still have a problem though. It appears to be electrical. Some lights in the panel arc very dim. sometimes they don't even work. Ordered a new electronic controller.will post back when I receive it and install.its got to be this or the interface board. 

Dishwasher finished it's usual cleaning cycle and suddenly stopped working all together. No sign of life whatsoever on the control panel. After doing a few YouTube searches and studying the troubleshooting guide that is stored on the unit under the kick plate the diagnosis led to the push-button control panel. The panel itself and the flex cable that leads from it to the control board are made of a "poly-flex" flexible circuit material. The poly-flex I/O cable attachment was not connectorized and appeared to be simply glued to the main push button control panel poly-flex. This bond failed and the connection let go entirely as evidenced by the detachment of the flex cable that leads to the control board. What a terrible design for a cable connection, and an easily preventable failure mode!! Door switch and latch were also worn so I replaced those too while I was in there. I ordered replacement parts through Appliance Parts Pros and had them the next day - excellent order fulfillment experience and reasonable prices compared to competitor offerings. 

Took three different parts, fuse? nope. Circuit board? nope. finally display panel? yep. All tolled, about $290 in new parts, but now it's all new. Very easy to install all parts on this dishwasher. All you need is a screwdriver with the right bit. 

After watching a few video's on U-tube and reading relevant threads, I checked the incoming power, bi-metal fuse and the door interlock switch and both were operational. The next was to check the connections to the control panel and I found the wiring harness had separated from the PC board and was un-repairable. I ordered a new control panel, installed it and was up and running in an hour. I am 2 for 2 with repair parts from Appliance Parts Pros and highly recommend them for advice, price, reliability and quick delivery. They are my 'Go-To' source for any issues with my appliances! 

I tried simply resetting by turning breaker off then on. That worked once. Problem reappeared and so started looking at various appliance blogs and YouTube videos. In the end I discovered the technician sheet under the kick panel (panel at the bottom of Machine) and it had a very Complete and clear diagnostic procedure that pointed to a shorted button or buttons on the panel. I pulled the panel out, cleaned it as best I could, dried it and put it back in. That worked for a few cycles but then problem came back. So I ordered a new part, it came fast and I installed. Problem appears to be resolved. 

Dishwasher is now working! Yippie! The ordering and the delivery of the part was fabulous. No problem. I did a DIY repair. Did a chat with a technician gave a little help but ended up figuring out how to remove the old one myself. The installation was literally a snap. One thing that would have helped if there was instructions on how to remove and install new part. Other than that I will continue to purchase my appliance parts from Appliance Parts. The diagram of the appliance and all its parts was great at ordering the correct part needed. Thank you. 

The AppliancePartsPros.com advisor indicated the problem was in the ribbon cable and gave me the part number to order. The lesson here is to always double check. There are two ribbon cables in series between the control panel and the electronic control card of this particular Whirlpool dishwasher. After checking the ribbons I order the correct one for a two day delivery. The part was shipped within hours with Fed-x and arrived a week later! Glad I spent the extra money for a quick turnaround. The part was a breeze to installment and our dish pan hands are on the mend.
