How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005965 / WP2180226 Control Bracket

Replaced the Control Bracket and the Lever Retainer. Thanks to videos online. 

I first ordered a new micro switch but when I opened the area up, I could see the plastic pins holding the switches were broken. This is why I ordered the replacement Control Bracket. Went in easily. One thing that needs to be noted is the video on your website shows that there is one microswitch for the water. On my unit, there are 2 switches for both the water and the ice. 

We researched and tested to determine the problem was the Control Bracket. 

I ordered a new microswitch and the bracket that holds it. The bracket depends on plastic retainers about the diameter and dependability of a toothpick. Those had broken off so the switch body moved instead of just the button on the switch when the dispenser arm was pushed by a user. The video from APP was super helpful, although the gloves the tech wore hid some things I needed to see, but not too badly. Also, my 23-year old refrigerator had some different wiring than shown in the video, but no show stoppers. It took me about ten minutes to complete the replacement and worked perfectly when reconnected. I'm not particularly handy, so I'm very grateful for the well-made video. 

I got on AppliancePartsPros.com website and was able to see how to diagnose the problem and locate the motor. It was very helpful. The dispenser motor was bad so I ordered a new one and had it in a few days. My husband installed it and we have ice again! The video on how to do the repair ourselves saved us a repair bill. 

Replaced the broken Control Bracket holding the micro-switch at dispensing lever. Watched a video on AppliancePartsPros.com website. Was spot-on !! 

I replaced the Control Bracket that held the micro switches. The 30-dollar panel that included shipping saved this 21-year-old refrigerator and saved me $1000 for a new one. Thanks 

Removed front of ice/water dispenser after shutting off the water supply and power. After unplugging the wiring harness removed the bracket, transferred the switch's light and heater modules, to a new bracket, and snapped it in place. Checked switch functions and reinstalled wiring and wiring harness. All wiring is color coded. Replaced the front panel, turned on water, and power, and checked functions were OK. 

I watched the videos available from AppliancePartsPros.com and ordered the parts to fix the problem. The problem required $20.00 worth of parts, compared to $800 to replace the refrigerator. Honestly, when troubleshooting ... the parts came apart just as advertised, and it was clear what was needed. When they arrived, the reality of dealing with plastic was an issue, but grand total of half an hour later this refrigerator was dispensing ice. 

We replaced the Control Bracket in 10 minutes. Easy peasy!
