How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005965 / WP2180226 Control Bracket

Refrigerator purchased in 1999. Plastic parts holding switches in place had broken, so they would no longer dispense water. Easy to swap out and fixed the issue. 

Saw video, figured I’d give it a try. Part arrived quickly. The next part is predictable: repair takes twice as long as expected, right? This was one of those times the opposite happened. I was done inside of 10 minutes. And it works fine. 

The video provided helped me disassemble the front panel and identify the failed parts, procure replacement parts and reassemble the unit. Delivery of the parts took about 1.5 days and reassembly was a piece of cake in about half an hour. Everything works and looks like new now! Small screwdrivers were used to apply pinpoint pressure to connector and retention clips and needle-nose pliers helped remove some stubborn electrical connectors. The fridge had to sit unplugged overnight waiting for parts, but did not compromise any of the frozen or refrigerated food contained within. 

Replaced the Micro Switch for the water and the Control Bracket. 

Thought it could be a bad switch. Took the control bracket out. Found the ice dispenser switch mounting pins and keeper tabs were broken. Ordered a control bracket from APP. It came the next day. Watched the APP video on how to do the repair. Couldn't have been easier. I used a putty knife and a small flat blade screwdriver were all the tools needed. control bracket P/N WP2180226 thanks, APP. 

Water dispenser broken, ordered new part online, received in less than 24 hours. Watched the video twice, installed in 22 minutes as I have large hands. My expression for the installation (piece of cake). 

Searched online to find what might be causing my problem. One of the pages that came up was the Appliance Parts Pros. I watched the video and went and popped the control panel off with a plastic putty knife. Confirmed the issue was a broken control bracket in less than a minute. I ordered the bracket and received it the next day. The actual repair job took around ten minutes and the problem was fixed. 

I found AppliancePartsPro.coms on YouTube. After watching several of Matt's videos pertaining to my refrigerator's issues, I went to their website and ordered parts. Matt's videos are dead-on precise and helped me change out the bad parts (water dispenser bracket, ice door and chute) without breaking anything else. Replaced control bracket. 

Upon inspection of the dispenser area. I found broken tabs on the bracket. I installed it in about 20 minutes. Thanks for your DYI video. Working perfectly.
